A First for Me: Pregnant In Suburbia

For the next seven months, I'll be navigating our new town with a baby bump, thrilled about having a second child.

My mid-February Mom On-the-Go column for Patch, "" was about how many of my friends—23 to be exact—were pregnant. In the column, I poked fun about "not getting the memo."

At the time, I was completely clueless. I, too, was pregnant!

I am due in early November with our second child. We could not be happier about the addition to our family of three. (Well, five if you count the four-legged hairballs.)

The news came as a total surprise, but we are over the moon with excitement.

I could honestly not care less about the gender. If it's a boy, we'll have one of each; if it's a girl, we already have everything "girl," so we're all set. It's a win-win situation.

This pregnancy brings with it some new experiences: exhaustion, nausea and cravings, to name a few. When I was pregnant with Ava, I didn't notice any changes beyond a protruding belly. This time around, I've not only been nauseous, but sick.

I cannot say I am a fan of this change of events.

My cravings? They are all over the map. I'm eating like a contestant for "The Biggest Loser" (pre-show, of course): waffles with butter, peanut butter and syrup for breakfast; nachos with salsa con queso and pickled jalapenos for lunch. Dinner consists of whatever I haven't consumed during the day, usually followed by a Reese's peanut butter cup and vanilla ice cream concoction of some sort.

Let's just say, it's getting ugly around here. At this rate, I'm going to be as big as Santa by the time the baby comes.

Speaking of Santa, maybe this year I'll ask for some lipo and a membership to Jenny Craig. By Christmas, I will need it.
