Hinsdale Central Football Qualifies for Playoffs

Hinsdale Central beat Downers Grove North, 20-14, Friday night in Hinsdale.

An up-and-down regular season for Hinsdale Central football ended on a high note as the Red Devils topped Downers Grove North Friday and were slated as a No. 13 seed in the 8A playoffs Saturday.

Hinsdale Central (5-4) will visit No. 4 Oswego (7-2) at a to-be-announced day and time.

The winner will take on the winner of No. 5 Waubounsie Valley and No. 12 Naperville North.

The Red Devils became playoff-eligible only after a 20-14 win over the Trojans at Dickinson Field Friday, according to HighSchoolCube News.

Senior quarterback Chase Hamilton returned from an ankle injury that had kept him out since Week 3, splitting time with Jacob White and Thomas Ives. Hinsdale Central never trailed.

Hamilton's injury contributed to a roller-coaster season for the Red Devils. After an opening-week loss to Bolingbrook, Hinsdale Central ran off three straight wins to get to 3-1. They lost three of their next four games, leaving them in a must-win situation Friday night.
