Boys Golf: Hinsdale Central Wins State Title at Rain-Shortened Tourney

The Hinsdale Central boys golfers are 3A state champions after shooting a combined 18-over-par Friday at the Den in Bloomington, two shots better than second-place Naperville North, according to the IHSA website. 

Saturday's second round was canceled due to rain.

Sophomore Brian Dolehide led the way for the Red Devils with a 2-over 74 Friday. He tied Naperville Central's Peter Mandich for fifth place in the individual standings. 

The other individual scores that counted towards Hinsdale Central's team title included senior David Whinery's 75, freshman Kenneth Li's 76, and junior Jeff Yoo's 81.

Juniors Grant Filer and Tom Olson also played and shot an 85 and 90, respectively.

“It’s very exciting,” Red Devils head coach Jess Krueger said after the state title became official, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s really special. A lot of great athletes through the years made this possible."

According to the IHSA's records, the last Hinsdale Central team title was in 1960, when the school was called Hinsdale Township High School.

After Naperville North, Lyons Township finished third as a team. Glenbrook North and Quincy Senior rounded out the top five. 

Deerfield's Ian Kelsey and New Trier's Jack Junge tied for the individual title with 1-under scores of 71. Naperville North's Raymond Knoll and Normal Community West's Steven Mullins tied for third with 1-over scores of 73.

Althoff Catholic won the 2A title, and North Shore Country Day topped the 1A leaderboard.
