Mulhern School of Irish Dance Injury Prevention Seminar

It is estimated that 90 percent of dancers will experience an injury at some point in their career.  Studies show that injuries among dancers jumped 37 percent over the last decade.  A study in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery found only three of 18 professional Irish dancers had healthy ankles while the rest had some form of ankle injury. This growing number of injuries is why The Mulhern School of Irish Dance is hosting a complimentary injury prevention, treatment and management seminar for Irish dancers on Monday, Sept. 16.

All are invited to the Mulhern School of Irish Dance studio, 414 Plaza Drive, Suite 303, Westmont, IL, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., for a chance to talk to some of the nation’s best orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists about preventing, recognizing and managing injuries; the importance of recovery; and how to continue dancing for a lifetime.

The seminar will feature Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush physicians  Drs. Charles Bush-Joseph, M.D., a sports medicine specialist and head team physician for the Chicago White Sox and team physician for the Chicago Bulls; and David N. Garras, M.D., a foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon.    In addition, Frank Puc, physical therapist and owner of Personal Best Performance, Westmont, will give injury prevention tips and demonstrate exercises for strengthening and conditioning.
