The I-55 southbound ramp to RT126 is closed due to water running across RT126 at the Reserves subdivision. Water is still coming across the road and is nearly a foot deep (east of 143rd St). If drivers attempt to drive through, please slow down. If you hydroplane, you may end up in the lake behind my house.

Just spent a couple of hours bagging sand at the Emergency Management building. It was great to see a 100+ people (of all ages) show up and dive right in to help the community. I haven't had any water issues at my home on Rt 126 by I-55, so I felt it was my civic duty to help others who aren't as fortunate.

Hey, Dawn. Does anyone proofread or do any fact-checking in these articles before publishing them? Wesmere Country Club does NOT have a golf course. Wedgewood is located across the street, but that is NOT park of the Plainfield Park District and offers no discounts to Plainfield residents that I am aware of.

My heart goes out to the family of this young girl. This is yet another example of the fact there are those in society who deserver the death penalty. But, thanks the liberal idiots that run this state (and all of you who keep voting them back into office), we no longer have that option. Instead, we now get to pay for another degenerate to sit behind bars for decades. All the while, he will get a free education, free television, free meals, free healthcare. I know prison isn't a picnic, but hopefully he wont be there long and will meet the same fate as Jefferey Dahmer (his head fell into a broomstick - repeatedly).

Cruise Nights are a great opportunity for all residents to get outside, visit the businesses downtown, let the kids play in the park, and maybe even check out an old (or new) classic car. We took my 78 year old mother-in-law last year, and to my surprise, she loved walking around and seeing the old cars. She said it reminded her of some many things from her youth. When we've gone to Cruise Nights, there have always been many people in the restaurants, buying ice cream or candy, and checking out the shops. Not sure how OT sees no positive economic impact. There's no way that many consumers would be in our downtown area on a Tuesday night without Cruise Nights. Thank you to the Chamber for taking on this, and other, activities for the community. While a car show might not be for everyone, it's great that we have diversity in our community and family activities. What one person might find boring, others might find interesting. It's great to see the Chamber be part of the solution in our community, not just part of the problem by ignoring needs and complaining about things.

Although I didnt really care for their pizza and atmosphere (way too many kids and noise for me) I'm actually surprised this location closed. It seems that every time I drove by, they were pretty busy.

  • On the article ComEd Wants You to Pay More for Electricity You Used Last Year

    PfieldJim

Of course ComEd is seeing a shortfall of revenue. Since electrical aggregation and third-party electricity suppliers have been allowed, there has been a rush of customers leaving ComEd. An earlier poster indicated Illinois has an average electrical rate of 9.13 kw/h. i switched to Direct Energy two years ago and paid half the average rate. Last year, Plainfield switched to First Energy and my bills dropped even more. Consumers speak with their wallets, and in this case, ComEd is panicking as a result of this mass exodus. ComEd still gets profit on the electricity delivery portion of the bill, but that is far less that they would have gotten from the average household in the 90's, before aggregation. We've all had to adjust our own budgets and expenses as the economy has changed, looks like its time ComEd does the same.

  • On the article Joliet Slammers Looking for a Few Good Homes to House Their Players

I was a host family for the first four seasons with the Jackhammers. It's a great experience for any area family who has an extra room or two. The players were always very respectful, and appreciative of the opportunity. The players are actually paid very little (most less than $900 per month before taxes). Host Family lodging (they provide their own meals) is vital for these players to be able to continue playing and is commonplace for all minor league teams, affiliated or independent.

At the time, my boys were playing baseball in junior high and high school, and the minor league players served as excellent role models for hard work and determination. Often, they even worked with my boys on their throwing or hitting and took them to the stadium for batting practice. Getting free tickets is also a great benefit and having that personal connection with the time made the baseball season even more enjoyable. I highly recommend being a host family to anyone who has the extra space to provide to these young ballplayers working hard to try and achieve their dreams.

  • On the article Plainfield Shoppers -- Watch Out for Added Credit Card 'Checkout Fee'

    PfieldJim

    12:05 pm on Friday, February 1, 2013

For more than a decade, the banks and credit card companies worked feverishly to change consumer spending habits away from cash and checks to credit cards. Now that we are all 'retrained" to use our plastic, it appears the legislators (Durbin and friends) and the Retail industry are working to punish us for doing what they wanted in the first place.

For concerned consumers, however, it should be noted this fee does not apply when using a debit card (entering you pin number). In this ultra-competitive marketplace and struggling economy, it will be a very bold move by any business who attempts to actually charge consumers an additional fee for using a credit card. Personally, I will not pay an extra fees unless there are absolutely no other options. i dare any local business to try and add a fee to my purchase price. I will gladly hand back any merchandise and void the sale immediately. A sign on the door or register counter indicating an impending credit card fee might as well just say 'Do Not Shop Here".
