The Hinsdale South senior participates in plenty of extracurricular activities and will attend Villanova University next fall.
Name: Emmanuel Morris Age: 18 Grade: Senior School: Hinsdale South High School Accomplishment: Morris was a member of the football team team until an injury ended his career with the Hornets. This winter and spring, he'll be a member of the indoor track and varsity baseball teams. He is a member of J. Kyle Braid, Peer Leadership Network, Operation Snowball and National Honor Society. Name: Justin Katzovitz Age: 18 Grade: Senior School: Hinsdale Central High School Accomplishment: Katzovitz was an offensive lineman on the Hinsdale Central football team, and is currently a varsity wrestler. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. Key to Awesomeness: Katzovitz has been involved with the Boy Scouts of America since he was in elementary school, and recently became an Eagle Scout. To become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank a scout can attain, Katzovitz had to achieve requirements ranging from the demonstration of outdoor skills to assuming leadership roles. He also participates in National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, Teachers in Need, and freshman orientation. Key to Awesomeness: With the Red Devils' football season over, Anlauf is focusing on basketball. "We're off to a really good start," he said. Name: Tom Garvin Age: 18 Grade: Senior School: Hinsdale Central High School Accomplishment: Garvin is a member of both the varsity basketball and varsity football teams at Hinsdale Central. He is also a member of Breaking Down the Walls, a group that works to eliminate bullying at Hinsdale Central through performances for other students. Key to Awesomeness: Garvin just finished his senior football season, during which the Red Devils went 6-3 in the regular season and lost to Mt. Carmel in the first round of the playoffs. Name: Karan Verma Age: 17 Grade: Senior School: Hinsdale South High School Accomplishment: Verma is a senior co-director (along with Christine Zajac) of Hinsdale South's branch of Operation Snowball, an organization that supports Hinsdale South students in forming relationships and having fun without drugs or alcohol. Verma is also involved with Cosmopolitan Club, which is dedicated to bringing ethnical and cultural awareness to the Hinsdale South community, and the Peer Leadership Network, whose members help acclimate freshmen to the school. Name: Jennifer Johnson Age: 16 Grade: Junior School: Hinsdale Central High School Accomplishment: Johnson recently performed in Hinsdale Central's "Music of the Night," an evening of songs from The Phantom of the Opera and other musicals that raised money to update the school's auditorium. At the event, which also featured Hinsdale Central alum Rick Hilsabeck, who was the Phantom in the first National Broadway Touring Company performance of The Phantom of the Opera, Johnson sang "I Still Believe" from Miss Saigon. Name: Sarah Warren Age: 15 Grade: Sophomore School: Hinsdale South High School Accomplishment: Warren runs indoor and outdoor track for Hinsdale South's teams, in addition to playing soccer for the Academy Soccer Club in Schaumburg and speed skating in Glen Ellyn. Key to Awesomeness: Warren used to play hockey with boys her age as well, but as she got older and there wasn't a comparable girls' league, "my parents were worried I was going to get hurt," she said. Eventually, she switched over to speed skating and fell in love with the sport. This past weekend, Warren competed in the American Cup II in Cleveland. Boling just finished his senior golf season at Hinsdale Central.
Name: Harry Boling Age: 17 Grade: Senior School: Hinsdale Central High School Accomplishment: Boling just finished his fourth year on the golf team; he's been on the varsity team the last three years. In addition to playing piano, he played drums and guitar in the Jazz Band and Concert Band for three years at Central, and plays guitar at his church. Boling also joined the Science Olympiad team last year, and will start his second season with the team in the coming months.
