No agreement was made on a new contract between District 181 and the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Teachers' Association (HCHTA) during a six-hour mediation session Thursday, but "progress has been made," according to a joint release from the district and union sent out Friday afternoon. The current contract between the district and union expires Wednesday, Aug. 24. The first day of school for District 181 schools is Thursday. "At this time, there is no additional statement I can make beyond the Board's press release," Superintendant Dr. Renée Schuster said in an email Friday.

Negotiations are on the agenda for private board discussion at a special meeting of the Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education Monday night. The district and its teachers' union, the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Teachers' Association, were scheduled to enter mediation some time in early August after two rounds of negotiations did not result in a new contract. Before their regular Committee of the Whole meeting Monday at 7 p.m., board members will go into executive session at 6 p.m. to discuss, among other things, "Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees," according to the meeting's…

After two rounds of negotiation during the last year, no agreement was reached between the two sides.
Community Consolidated School District 181 and the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Teachers' Association (HCHTA) will enter mediation in early August after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a new contract during two rounds of negotiations in the last year, according to a release sent out by the district Monday. The current three-year contract with the HCHTA expires on August 24. According to the release, the district and the union had a series of negotiation meetings between March and June 2011 after the first negotiation period in July 2010.
