Jury Finds Johnny Borizov Guilty in Darien Family Murders

The trial comes to a close nearly one month after it began, and more than three years after three Kramer family members were killed.

A jury has found a Willow Springs man guilty of conspiring to kill a Darien family. Johnny Borizov was found guilty on all counts, including first-degree murder and solicitation of murder charges. The verdict was announced Tuesday evening at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton. Although Judge Daniel Guerin told the crowded courtroom to withhold emotion during the verdict reading, a gasp was heard along with feet stomping. Many Kramer family members and friends hugged each other and cried openly as they left the courtroom, WBBM Newsradio reports. Borizov showed no emotion as the verdict was read and also when he was led out of the courtroom, according to the Chicago Tribune. The jury took about two hours and 20 minutes to convict …

Patch Court Watch: City Seeks Dismissal of Negligence Allegations

A "career thief" and a famous adult film star were also among the defendants in cases that had hearings last week in DuPage County court.

Elmhurst—The City of Elmhurst is expected to formally file by mid-October a motion seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit alleging its negligence caused flooding of residents' homes. Attorneys for the city and resident Alexander Arezina appeared in court on Sept. 19 when the judge set a filing schedule that will culminate with a Dec. 8 hearing on the city's attempt to have the case thrown out. Arezina sued Elmhurst in June claiming water backups into his home during a pair of 2010 storms were caused by a faulty city sewer system. The city is also facing a lawsuit filed by the Illinois Attorney General relating to sewer problems and overflows. In Court This Week: Man Who Allegedly Punched Nurse, Barrett-D86 Dispute

Here are a few of the cases Patch is keeping its eye on this week.

Two local cases as well as several other high-profile ones are back in DuPage County Court this week. Hinsdale—The records dispute between board member Dianne Barrett and the Hinsdale High School District 86 returns to court Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Courtroom 2009. The hearing is expected to be focused on the district's motion to dismiss the case.  Hinsdale—Timothy Kim, the Carol Stream man accused of assaulting a nurse at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital last December, is also scheduled for a Monday morning status hearing status hearing at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 4012.  Downers Grove—Eric Gilford, who has pleaded guilty to murdering his wife and unborn child in May 2010, is scheduled to appear for a brief hearing on his pre-sentence report on Aug. …

Here's a look at some of the cases we're keeping an eye on this week.

Coming off a long holiday weekend, there are very few criminal cases with court dates this week. However, a couple of notable civil cases—one against a local college and another against a famous adult film star—will have hearings at the DuPage County Courthouse.  Lisle—The lawsuit against Benedictine by the family of a former student is up for a hearing on July 5 when the school is going to ask for the judge to throw out the case. The school's dismissal motion basically argues technical problems without addressing allegations they took items belonging to Rachel Julius after her drug overdose. Naperville—The owners of Hollywood theaters wants a judge to enter a default judgment against porn star Jenna Jameson because neither she nor her …

In Court This Week: Sentencing for Darien Mortgage Thieves

Here's a look at some of the cases we're keeping an eye on this week.

It's a slow pre-holiday week at the DuPage County Courthouse, but there are hearings in a few notable cases, including the Darien triple murder case. Also, two women convicted of stealing millions from mortgage customers are set to be sentenced.  Darien—Jacob Nodarse returns to court May 25 for another hearing in his triple murder case. His attorney has been waiting on further results of psychological exams, but hasn't indicated any affirmative defenses at this point. Nodarse's mental state is emerging as a defense for co-defendant Johnny Borizov.  Darien—Sentencing for Pamela Williams and Patricia Johnson is still on for May 26 as of right now. Here's a look at some of the cases we're keeping an eye on this week.

Among the cases being heard in DuPage County Court this week is the Darien triple-murder case, in which one defendant is seeking to place the blame on the other. There is also a hearing in the Demarco Whitley case, which alleges the former Glenbard West football player was involved in a 2010 sexual assault.  Darien—Johnny Borizov returns to court May 20 for another hearing in his triple murder case. His most recent appearances have been focused on his attorney's push to get all types of reports and other information to support their defense that co-defendant Jacob Nodarse might have acted on his own because of psychological issues. In Court This Week: Alleged Hinsdale Metra Bomber Asks for New Lawyer

Here's a look at some of the cases we're keeping an eye on this week in DuPage County.

After a delayed hearing last week, the alleged 2006 Hinsdale Metra bomber is in court asking for new representation. Meanwhile, a Downers Grove man accused of posing as a doctor and the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run in Elmhurst also go before judges this week.  Hinsdale—James Zajac (Metra station explosion) is now scheduled for a May 12 hearing in federal court in Chicago to ask a judge for a new attorney. Zajac was recently sentenced to 35 years in prison for a similar incident in Utah, but has an appeal pending in that case.  Downers Grove—Eugene Miller, charged with pretending to be a doctor and treating people, is scheduled for a status hearing on May 12.  Downers Grove—Ruth Kadlec (theft from high school) scheduled for a status …

In Court This Week: Hinsdale Metra Bomber, Burr Ridge Murder Case

Here's a look at some of the cases we're keeping an eye on this week.

The suspect in the 2006 Hinsdale Metra station explosion is back in court this week in Chicago after being found guilty of a similar crime in another part of the country. Also, defense counsel in a Burr Ridge murder case wants to present evidence that shows someone other than its client did the deed, and a Naperville man goes to court for impersonating a lawyer.  Hinsdale—James Zajac, who is charged with causing the 2006 explosion at the Hinsdale Metra station, is scheduled for a May 6 hearing in federal court in Chicago. He recently was sentenced to prison for a similar conviction in Utah. Burr Ridge—John Gilbert is scheduled for a May 4 hearing on a defense request to introduce evidence at trial that someone other than Gilbert killed …
