New Clarendon Hills Cop Sworn In

Colin Hutchens took the oath at Monday night's Clarendon Hills Village Board meeting.

The Clarendon Hills Police Department's newest police officer was sworn in at Monday night's Clarendon Hills Village Board meeting at Village Hall. Colin Hutchens, 24, took the village's oath in front of numerous family members. The Grayslake resident was hired after completing the necessary physical and psychological examinations, interviews and background check. Hutchens is a Michigan State University graduate with a degree in criminal justice. He was last employed by Lowe's in Naperville, where he worked in loss prevention.

Clarendon Hills Man Charged with Child Porn Possession

The Wheaton Police Department discovered pornographic material on the 25-year-old's computer as part of its Internet crime efforts.

The following is a release from the Clarendon Hills Police Department: On March 28, Daniel R. Hillier, 25, of the 300 block of Park Avenue, Clarendon Hills, was charged with 12 counts of possession of child pornography and dissemination of child pornography by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. Hillier was taken into custody on March 29 and is being held on a $300,000 bond.  Investigators from the Wheaton Police Department discovered pornographic material on Hillier’s computer as part of their ongoing Internet crime efforts. That material was vetted by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office and a search warrant was issued. SUNDAY, MARCH 17 Maureen Hipskind, 49, of the 5500 block of Childs Avenue, Hinsdale, was charged with DUI, police said, after appearing under the influence of alcohol during a 12:53 a.m. traffic stop related to failure to signal near 55th and Quincy streets and failing an ensuing breath test. She was released to appear in court. THURSDAY, MARCH 13 Two iPod Touches worth a combined $600 were stolen from Prospect School classrooms between Feb. 21 and 27, according to a March 13 report. The devices were located in teacher desk drawers, police said. SUNDAY, MARCH 3 A female at 4:08 p.m. attempted to take $40 worth of groceries from a store on the 300 block of Holmes Avenue. An employee advised she is being cooperative, even though a dispatcher heard crying and yelling in the background. FRIDAY, MARCH 1 A witness at 6:47 p.m. saw a male juvenile smash two gallons of milk on the floor of a store on the 300 block of Holmes Avenue. The boy pretended to slip with two gallons of milk in his hands, then smash the milk, according to police. Another juvenile filmed the incident on his phone. The responding officer spoke with the juveniles' parents and restitution was made. The juveniles were told they can no longer enter the store with or without parents. Clarendon Hills Police Chief Ted Jenkins said the non-negotiable nature of the Social Security benefit makes it attractive to his patrol officers.

Clarendon Hills Police Chief Ted Jenkins said he didn’t imagine his patrol officers’ Social Security benefits would be what killed talks of a Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills police-department merger. “I don’t think anybody thought that was going to be a deal-breaker from the beginning, but it turned out to be a major problem,” Jenkins said. The Clarendon Hills Police Department was among a minority of agencies that in 1983, when given a chance to opt out, decided to have its officers continue paying into Social Security and retiring with Social Security benefits on top of their standard, locally funded police pension, Clarendon Hills village manager Randy Recklaus said in January. Police Chief 'Disappointed' After Merger Fails

Hinsdale Police Chief Brad Bloom and Clarendon Hills Police Chief Ted Jenkins both said police-department consolidation will likely become common in Illinois in the future.

After the villages of Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills announced police department merger talks were dead last week, Hinsdale Police Chief Brad Bloom said a chance to responsibly and thoughtfully consolidate was lost. “I am disappointed,” Bloom said. “I think we had a great opportunity given the fact that we weren’t facing a huge budgetary shortfall.” Both Bloom and Clarendon Hills Police Chief Ted Jenkins said they think police consolidation, though currently unprecedented in Illinois, will become a common occurrence. “I think in the future you’re going to see police departments consolidating in Illinois to save money,” Jenkins said.
