Hinsdale Chief 'Absolutely' Supports Kirk Dillard's Burglary-Related Proposal

The state senator from Hinsdale wants the state government to develop record-keeping requirements for cash-for-gold businesses similar to those required of pawnshops.

Hinsdale Police Chief Brad Bloom said the rise of cash-for-gold businesses with their lack of public sales records is related to the upswing in recent years of residential burglaries that target jewelry. “I think it’s fueled this availability of cash for jewelry,” Bloom said. “People can get money quick with out having to provide any records.” Clarendon Hills Police Chief Ted Jenkins agreed.  "The ability to sell it for weight, without any records, has made jewelry as liquid as cash," he said. OMG PD: Magic-Marker Threat, Apartment Climbing

NAPERVILLE A woman who moved out of an apartment in the 200 block of East Bailey Road two months ago returned to the apartment May 15 and asked the property manager if she could get her belongings. She was told by the property manager that the apartment was cleaned out and she was not allowed to enter, police said. A resident then saw the woman scale the balconies to get to her old apartment on the third floor, but she was not able to gain entry, police said. CLARENDON HILLS An apartment tenant on the 200 block of North Richmond Avenue wrote in magic marker on his door that "any trespassers will be shot," according to a police report. $600 in iPods Stolen from School, St. Paddy's DUI: Police Blotter

SUNDAY, MARCH 17 Maureen Hipskind, 49, of the 5500 block of Childs Avenue, Hinsdale, was charged with DUI, police said, after appearing under the influence of alcohol during a 12:53 a.m. traffic stop related to failure to signal near 55th and Quincy streets and failing an ensuing breath test. She was released to appear in court. THURSDAY, MARCH 13 Two iPod Touches worth a combined $600 were stolen from Prospect School classrooms between Feb. 21 and 27, according to a March 13 report. The devices were located in teacher desk drawers, police said. Car Window Smashed, $520 in Items Stolen: Police Blotter

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20 Someone broke into a car parked in a lot in the 900 block of North Elm Street by smashing a window and stole a GPS unit and a pair of sunglasses worth a combined $520, police said. The incident took place between 3:20 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. and remains under investigation. MONDAY, MARCH 18 Someone tried to use the identity of a resident from the 400 block of South Grant Street to open a line of credit at a jewelry store at 12:43 p.m., police said. The resident was alerted by the jewelry store and the transaction was denied. More Jewelry Missing in Hinsdale

The incident was reported less than a mile from the home that was burglarized Saturday night. Here's more info.

Another home in Hinsdale has reported missing jewelry, according to police. This time the theft took place on the 800 block of Merrill Woods Road. The incident occurred sometime between Oct. 1 and March 12, according to a police report. A woman reported five pieces of jewelry missing from her home. She thinks contractors and other persons who had authorized access to her residence during the timeframe given might have taken the jewelry. The total value of the jewelry was unknown at the time of report, but the incident was classified under "theft over $300." The Merrill Woods home is located less than a mile from the scene of a home burglary that took place March 16. In that incident, forced entry was made to the home via a back door …

Hinsdale Home Broken Into Saturday Night: Police

Several pieces of jewelry went missing from bedrooms in the home, the Hinsdale Police Department reports.

A home in the 500 block of Wedgewood Court was burglarized Saturday night and it appears several pieces of jewelry were stolen, according to the Hinsdale Police Department. Forced entry was made to the home via a back door some time between 7:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a police department release reads. Jewelry is missing from bedrooms within the home.  Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said the value of the missing jewelry is unknown as of Monday morning, and the house was unoccupied during the above timeframe. "Residents in the area who may have any video surveillance footage from a private residential video surveillance system in the area are encouraged to contact the investigations division at (630) 789-7070," the department release reads…

SUNDAY, MARCH 3 A female at 4:08 p.m. attempted to take $40 worth of groceries from a store on the 300 block of Holmes Avenue. An employee advised she is being cooperative, even though a dispatcher heard crying and yelling in the background. FRIDAY, MARCH 1 A witness at 6:47 p.m. saw a male juvenile smash two gallons of milk on the floor of a store on the 300 block of Holmes Avenue. The boy pretended to slip with two gallons of milk in his hands, then smash the milk, according to police. Another juvenile filmed the incident on his phone. The responding officer spoke with the juveniles' parents and restitution was made. The juveniles were told they can no longer enter the store with or without parents. FRIDAY, MARCH 1 A homeowner at 12:36 p.m. on the first block of Woodstock Avenue reported a suspicious man in his 50s who looked like he was delivering a package to the home. The homeowner was not expecting any deliveries. The man left after a few minutes. A man at 5:20 p.m. wanted to speak with a officer regarding his job at a business on the 300 block of Holmes Avenue. SUNDAY, FEB. 24 Raul Peres, 30, of the 300 block of Burlington Avenue, Downers Grove, was charged with driving without a valid license, police said, after a 12:12 a.m. traffic stop near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Monroe Street. He was released to appear in court. THURSDAY, FEB. 21 A resident from the 0-100 block of Tuttle Avenue told police at 3:21 p.m. that his or her credit card was fraudulently used to purchase two plane tickets worth $1,090.67 some time on Feb. 18 or Feb. 19. Police said the resident discovered the purchase when the credit card was declined, and was filing a police report in order to recover the lost money. Someone stole five containers of baby formula worth $152.83 from Jewel-Osco at 3:42 p.m., police said. …

Garfield Street Burglary Reported, Jewelry Missing

A home in the 500 block of North Garfield Street was broken-into Sunday evening, Hinsdale Police say.

Jewelry and money were taken from a burglarized home in the 500 block of North Garfield Street between 5:30 p.m. and 7:43 p.m. Sunday, Hinsdale Police Department officials say. Some time during that two-hour timeframe, Deputy Chief Kevin Simpson said, a burglar broke into the home by prying open a rear door and took a jewelry box and change holder in the house’s master bedroom. “Multiple rooms were ransacked,” Simpson said. Nobody was home at the time of the burglary. The homeowners reported the incident the same night, and Simpson said the police department is still waiting on a complete list of missing items.
