Central jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by junior Matt Muellner, but South rallied with a four-run third that saw Red Devils senior pitcher Basil Arain give up two singles, hit a batter, and walk in a run before Reschke's triple cleared the bases. Donna Lebano of Lemont toughed out contractions during the Blackhawks' series-clinching victory over the Minnesota Wild Thursday night before she was rushed to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and gave birth in the wee hours of the morning.

The first contraction hit Donna Lebano during second period of the Blackhawks game. “No way was I leaving,” said Lebano, who was eight months pregnant. “We are a Hawks family. I had to see the end of the game.” She did. Chicago beat the Minnesota Wild 5-1 Thursday night to win the first-round playoff series four games to one and advance to the next round. The minute the game was over, Lebano was driven to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital by her three sisters, who were timing her contractions the whole way. Hinsdale Central tight end Ian Bunting has committed to play his college ball at the University of Michigan after he graduates next year, the Chicago Tribune reports. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound Hinsdale resident had scholarship offers from big-program schools including Notre Dame and USC, according to SB Nation. Bunting told the Tribune that he chose Michigan in part because his recently-deceased grandmother was a Wolverine and was hoping he'd have the opportunity to play in Ann Arbor. The West Suburban Silver champs lost, 55-49, in their playoff opener Thursday night in Wheaton.
Hinsdale Central's championship season came to an abrupt end Thursday night after a 55-49 loss to Geneva in the Wheaton Warrenville South Regional semifinal, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The Red Devils cracked the top five in all three relays, but lost out as a team to champion New Trier.
Behind three strong relay performances and a trio of top 12 individual finishes, Hinsdale Central finished second as a team at this weekend's IHSA boys state swim and dive meet. New Trier finished first with 189 points, far ahead of the Red Devils' 96. Lake Forest finished third with 93 points. The West Suburban Silver champs start their IHSA playoff run Wednesday night in Wheaton.
The Hinsdale Central boys basketball team wrapped up an 18-6 regular season Wednesday night, which is good enough for a No. 5 seed in the Bolingbrook Sectional and a first-round bye in the Wheaton Warrenville South Regional that begins next week. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Red Devils will face the winner of Monday's game between No. 12 seed Geneva and No. 21 seed Wheaton Warrenville South. The seniors were honored during a signing ceremony Wednesday morning before school.
Eleven Hinsdale Central athletes who plan to compete at the college level next year were honored Wednesday morning during a signing ceremony in front of their parents and coaches. The 11 seniors compete in sports that range from football, to soccer, to golf, and have committed to colleges that include North Carolina, Brown, and Holy Cross. The Hinsdale Central boys swim and dive team had a good showing at Saturday's Lyons Township Sectional.
Hinsdale Central's boys swim and dive team took first place at Saturday's Lyons Township Sectional and qualified 12 competitors in individual events for this weekend's state meet at New Trier.
