A commuter tax? What will they think of next?
I refuse to set foot in the city of Chicago. Even if it means having to endure a decade long yearning to gaze upon that Wrigley Field ivy, I won’t do it. That’s how serious I am. I may miss the Lyric and long to see Mr. Muti and his crew, but they, the Planetarium and the Field Museum will just have to get along without me. My aversion to the “City that Works” started with the installation of 200 red-light camera intersections, most of which have seen their yellow light times reduced to the legal three-second minimum—or less! It continued with privatized street parking rates that make the most hardened loan shark blush, and it ended with a 10.25 percent sales tax, the highest in the nation. A Second City performance Friday night brought Hinsdale South students and other community members together for some laughs.
The Second City National Touring Company earned loud applause and high praise from audience members for its performance on Friday at Hinsdale South High School. Burr Ridge resident Juzer Chinwalla attended the show with his wife, Vandana, and his daughter, Anisha, who is a junior at Hinsdale South High School. “I loved it. I thought it was really funny,” said Anisha, who has a friend who takes a Second City improvisation class. “I’m amazed how they can improvise like that,” said Vandana Chinwalla. Juzer Chinwalla agreed, saying that the improvisation was so high-quality that it almost seemed like the actors had rehearsed it that way. “We were surprised by how good it was. Overall, it was a great experience,” he said. The two-hour show …

On Saturday, students, faculty, staff, and parents of Hinsdale Central were the target of Second City's comedy routine. During two shows in the school's auditorium, the legendary comedy troupe performed skits that reflected life at Hinsdale Central in a benefit for the HCHS Booster Club. The five actors incorporated Hinsdale Central teachers and even student-approved slang into their skits, which also included audience participation and improvisation. One improvisation featured two actors trying to guess a noun, a verb and an adjective. The audience and other actors knew the three words, so the actors pantomimed the words while the audience encouraged them by clapping. The audience participation made this sketch even more fun to watch. The…

Jason, It is a myth that CPS test scores aren’t improving. According to the state in 2012, C.P.S. has steadily improved in all areas of the ISAT test. In fact, in 2002 the overall picture was 41.1%, which is failing. In 2012 C.P.S. leaped to 74%. That is an 80% increase in 10 years! http://www.examiner.com/article/chicago-public-school-test-scores Here is the State Report Card link for those test…   more ›
