ST. CHARLES A 40-year-old resident of the 1000 block of Dean Street reported at 10:50 p.m. Feb. 27 that someone had poured bleach into her laundry in the basement of the apartment building where she lives. The clothes were ruined. The woman told police some tenants come into the basement to smoke cigarettes and marijuana and had been down there shortly after she started her laundry. DOWNERS GROVE A manager at a buffet-style restaurant on the 1400 block of 75th Street at about 8 p.m. Feb. 25 talked to police about a theft involving a man who keeps coming into the restaurant and eating without paying for food. The man appears to be between 25 and 30 years old. On this day he wore a white Adidas hoodie and jeans as he came into the restaurant…

OAK PARK Police reported a man who allegedly body-slammed another person at the Oak Park Blue Line stop last week. According to Oak Park police, the attacker was last seen running eastbound toward East Avenue at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 19. The offender is described as a man in his 20's, about 5-foot-9 and with a medium build. He was wearing a black hoodie, black jeans and brown boots. Police said the victim reported being punched in the face and then body-slammed on the El platform. A second victim was hit in the chin when trying to get the attacker off of the first person he hit. DOWNERS GROVE Matthew Wieczorek, 33, of the 6100 block of Pinewood Court in Willowbrook, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. after an incident at the Downers Grove Best Buy, 7401 Lemont Road, police said. The manager told police he was hit multiple times by a customer, later identified as Wieczorek, after an incident at the Geek Squad counter, according to reports. Employees said Wieczorek had spilled a liquid on the counter and was "yelling something about fixing his phone," police said. He then "kicked his phone toward the ceiling" and grabbed a pair of headphones, which he also kicked, according to reports. CLARENDON HILLS The Clarendon Hills Park District reported at 8:50 a.m. that a vandal spray-painted graffiti onto the north side of the picnic pavilion at Prospect Park, police said. Painted onto the wall in white, police said, were a duck saying "Moo," and the word "Fresh." Removal is expected to cost the park district $100. A woman stole 10 steaks worth $150 from Jewel, 303 Holmes Ave., at around 11:40 a.m., police said. The thief fled in a car driven by an accomplice. A resident of an apartment complex in the 200 block of North Richmond Avenue who threw a birthday party for a 2-year-old sustained minor injuries after he was beaten by several guests when he told them the party was over at 11:35 p.m., police said. DARIEN McDonald's is known for its Happy Meals, but one Darien resident is charged with taking that concept a bit too far. Darien police said they were called to the McDonald's in the 800 block of Plainfield Road in reference to a drug deal inside the restaurant at 10:17 p.m. Jan. 24. Nicholas Colonna, 18, of the 7900 block of Glen Lane in Darien, was charged with possession of marijuana and delivery of marijuana. Police said they found marijuana in a small plastic bag on Colonna when he was sitting inside his car. Laura Zaliauskas, 33, of the 1500 block of Lakeview Drive in Darien, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment. Zaliauskas, wearing a McDonald's sweatshirt, was in possession of a "cannabis …

DOWNERS GROVE John K. Schlachter, 58, of the 700 block of Liberty Drive in Wheaton, was arrested around 5:16 p.m. at the Main Street train depot, 1000 Burlington Ave., police said. The victim told police he was at the train depot with his girlfriend when Schlachter entered and said, "Hey, give me a hug," then proceeded to hug the girlfriend, according to reports. The victim became upset, and asked Schlachter to leave his girlfriend alone, police said. Schlachter reportedly began yelling racial slurs at the victim, prompting a back-and-forth exchange between the two men. Schlachter then took a long, silver object from his bag and began waving it in a circle, telling the other man, "... this will mess you up good," according to reports. The …

Regarding the "bears and moose running wild"... I am getting the impression this lady in BEDS is suffering from a mental disability. I feel the things she has been saying do not belong in the police section of the Patch. It is not a crime to have mental illness. The brain is an organ just like the heart. She also told an officer about a “loose bear” at one of the La Grange shelters. HINSDALE A resident from the 800 block of South Washington Street in Hinsdale reported on Jan. 10 that five silver place settings worth a combined $14,400 went missing from her home some time between Jan. 1, 2012, and Dec. 31, 2012, according to the Hinsdale Police Department. These crimes sound like the commom antics you see around sec. 8 apartments. It will only get worse for residents and yet the dear landlord gets paid every month by the goverment. It only takes one apartment building to change the character of an entire neighborhood.   more ›
