Accused Killer's Mom Goes to Prison for Hiding Son's Gun

Elva Hernandez pleaded guilty to helping her son, Juan Cuellar, dispose of his gun after Cuellar allegedly shot to death Hinsdale South graduate Joshua Holmes last fall.

The mother of the man charged with last September's murder of Hinsdale South graduate Joshua Holmes will spend two years in prison for helping her son attempt to dispose of the murder weapon, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Elva Hernandez, 43, of Willowbrook, was sentenced Thursday by Judge Kathryn Creswell after she pleaded guilty to obstructing justice, a class 4 felony, for throwing into the Fox River the gun her son, 23-year-old Juan Cuellar, allegedly used to murder Joshua Holmes, 18, on the evening of Sept. 24, according to a state's attorney's office release. Westmont Woman Charged With Husband's Stabbing Murder

Lisa Davis allegedly stabbed David Davis to death on Feb. 15 in the couple's Westmont home.

The following is a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office: DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced Sunday that First Degree Murder charges have been filed against Lisa Davis, 42, of the 500 West 61st Street, Westmont, for the murder of her husband, forty-nine year old David Davis.  On Feb. 15, at approximately 7:29 p.m., Westmont police officers responded to a 911 emergency call at the couple’s residence. Upon their arrival, officers found David bleeding from a knife wound to the right side of his abdomen. Mr. Davis was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Accused O'Laughlin Killer Returns to Court as Own Lawyer

One hearing after his pro se motion was granted, John L. Wilson received 2,600 pages of discovery documents Wednesday and his request to have his hands freed from cuffs during future proceedings will be considered in March.

The man charged with the 2011 murder of 14-year-old Lyons Township student Kelli O’Laughlin was back in court Wednesday morning, and during the first hearing since a granted pro se motion allowed John L. Wilson to represent himself, signed for thousands of pages worth of documents a defendant's lawyer would typically hold. Wilson, dressed in a yellow and green jumpsuit and surrounded by several armed guards, signed with cuffed hands four receipts acknowledging the state's turnover of about 2,600 pages of discovery documents to the defendant. Accused O’Laughlin Killer Will Represent Self in Court

John L. Wilson, who is charged with the 2011 child murder in Indian Head Park, has been granted a motion of pro se with only stand-by counsel.

The man accused in the October 2011 murder of 14-year-old Kelli O’Laughlin in her Indian Head Park home has been granted the right to serve as his own lawyer as the case proceeds towards a likely trial. John L. Wilson was granted a pro se motion on Dec. 19 by presiding judge John Hynes. A public defender has been appointed as stand-by counsel only. Defendants have the right to represent themselves even against their own self-interest, said Pat Reardon, first assistant public defender for Cook County, and no one can stop them from exercising that right. John L. Wilson, Jr.,  the man charged with the brutal murder of 14-year-old Lyons Township freshman Kelli O'Laughlin, is scheduled to appear in court next month for a status hearing. The case against the Chicago man, who had been out on parole at the time he burglarized the teen's Indian Head Park home, has progressed slowly.  Wilson was taken into custody on November 2, 2011, six days after prosecutors say he stabbed the teen to death. Man Charged With Murder of Hinsdale South Grad Pleads Not Guilty

Juan Cuellar was in court this week, where he pleaded not guilty to all five counts related to the September murder of Joshua Holmes in unincorporated Willowbrook.

A Willowbrook man charged in the shooting death of a Hinsdale South High School graduate has pleaded not guilty. Juan Cuellar denied a five-count murder indictment during an Oct. 22 hearing. He remains held without bond in DuPage County Jail. The following are recent developments in notable DuPage County court cases: Willowbrook—Prosecutors in the case of Juan Cuellar, the 23-year-old Willowbrook man accused of shooting to death Hinsdale South graduate Joshua Holmes, have filed paperwork stating they will give immunity to two witnesses who might not otherwise testify to what they know about the killing, court records show. The witnesses, both identified as women, would likely refuse to testify or "produce evidence" for fear of self-incrimination without immunity protection, prosecutors stated in the court filing. Police Charge Willowbrook Man With Murder of Hinsdale South Grad

Police say Juan M. Cuellar shot and killed 18-year-old Joshua Holmes Monday near Willowbrook.

A man has been arrested and charged with the murder of 18-year-old Hinsdale South grad Joshua Holmes, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday. Juan M. Cuellar, 23, of the 700 block of Lilac Lane in unincorporated Willowbrook, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Police say Cueller shot Holmes near the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose and Hyacinth Lanes near Holmes' home at around 6:35 p.m. Monday.
