Only one run was scored through five innings, but LT came back from a 4-1 hole to win 5-4 on a walk-off hit by Sam Cybulski.
It was a pitchers' duel between rivals Lyons Township and Hinsdale Central through five innings Monday, but offensive attacks by both teams down the stretch led to an exciting 5-4 LT win. Lyons pitcher Alex Vannucci was impressive through five innings, allowing seven hits but striking out five Central batters, including Matt Muellner to escape a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning. But the wheels came off in the sixth inning when Vannucci surrendered five straight hits, including three doubles and a triple, to put LT in a 4-1 hole. The Lions tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. They loaded the bases with three straight singles, including a bunt by Tom Prescott that resulted in a miscommunication about where to throw. John L. Wilson, who is charged with the 2011 child murder in Indian Head Park, has been granted a motion of pro se with only stand-by counsel.
The man accused in the October 2011 murder of 14-year-old Kelli O’Laughlin in her Indian Head Park home has been granted the right to serve as his own lawyer as the case proceeds towards a likely trial. John L. Wilson was granted a pro se motion on Dec. 19 by presiding judge John Hynes. A public defender has been appointed as stand-by counsel only. Defendants have the right to represent themselves even against their own self-interest, said Pat Reardon, first assistant public defender for Cook County, and no one can stop them from exercising that right. But lawyers tend to think it’s a bad call. “Frankly, from the view of the public defender, it’s a nightmare,” Reardon said. “There’s an old saying that a person who has himself for a lawyer …

Junior Christian Meyer scored two goals for the Red Devils, who took home the Silver Brick after three straight losses to the Lions from 2009 to 2011.
Hinsdale Central scored three first-half goals Saturday and weathered the storm defensively in the second half of a 3-2 home win over Lyons Township, the Red Devils' first Silver Brick victory over the Lions in four years. Hinsdale Central (8-3-2) went up 1-0 on LT in the 12th minute, when a Lions corner kick was turned around by the Red Devils defense, and senior midfielder Phillip Gutman hit junior forward Christian Meyer with a long through-pass across midfield. Meyer caught up to the ball behind the Lions defense and put an uncontested shot past junior LT keeper Peter Nolan. The Lions quickly tied the game in the 13th minute on senior forward Jack Thomas' goal, but the Red Devils scored two goals in the final 18 minutes of the first …

The host Red Devils will look to take back the brick after a 1-0 loss against the Lions in 2011.
Friday night's football game isn't the only big bout this weekend between rivals Hinsdale Central and Lyons Township. The 37th annual Silver Brick Match between the Central and LT boys soccer teams is set for Saturday afternoon in Hinsdale. The match is set for 4 p.m. at Dickinson Field. Last year, the Lions beat the Red Devils 1-0 in La Grange. Then-senior midfielder Elliot Borge scored the lone goal for LT in the 50th minute. “It’s one of the oldest rivalries in the state and we want it to be about rivalry and passion, and all of that,” LT head coach Paul Labbato said after that game. Last year's Lions win is one that got some big attention around Hinsdale after LT dad and Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass donned blue and gold to a …

Both Litt and MacNeil won top ribbons in February and March at the Winter Equestrian Festival. The Lions took the lead early in the first and didn't relinquish it once over the final three-plus quarters.
Four Lyons Township players scored in double figures and the Lions kept the Hinsdale Central offense in check with stingy zone defense Friday during a 66-54 win in Hinsdale, the Lions' fifth straight win. In a West Suburban Silver game that featured what LT senior guard Matt Robare called “the ultimate rivalry,” he and junior forward Chris O’Reilly each scored 14 points, and senior forward Chris Antalek chipped in a hard-earned 13. The Lions (7-9) took a 6-5 lead on an O’Reilly three-pointer early in the first quarter and didn’t trail the rest of the way. "I think our kids are playing with confidence," said LT head coach Tom Sloan, whose team began the season 2-9 and lost seven straight at one point. Senior guard Brad Anlauf led Hinsdale …
