District 86 Approves 4 Percent Tax Levy Hike

Increase will bring in about $82 million for the district's 2011 and 2012 fiscal year budgets.

Residents within the boundaries of Hinsdale Township High School District 86 will see an increase in the amount of taxes they owe the district next year.    At Monday's District 86 Board of Education meeting, the board unanimously approved the tentative 2010 real estate property tax levy which will increase the district's property tax revenue by 4 percent. The increase will bring in about $82 million in dollars to be used for the district's 2011 and 2012 fiscal year budgets. On Nov. 1, the board considered a 3.1 percent, 5.7 percent and 4 percent increases in the tax levy. District 86 School Board Considers 4 Percent Tax Levy

Board voted Monday night to consider a levy that would raise $25 to $82 million.

Hinsdale High School Township District 86 is considering whether to levy a 4 percent tax increase to pay for the district's budget for the upcoming school year. Every year, the board must approve a new tax levy to cover the district's budget. During the meeting, Jeffrey T. Eagan, the district's business manager, presented the board with three scenarios.
