D86 Election: 'Friends' Slate Promises Transparency, 'New Brand of Collaboration'

Challengers Victor Casini, Ed Corcoran and Claudia Manley all won spots on the District 86 Board of Education Tuesday after a contentious campaign.

Claudia Manley called it “unbelievable.” Ed Corcoran was “elated.” Victor Casini said it was “a pleasant surprise.” Following the election of all three “Friends for District 86” candidates Tuesday in the race for District 86 school board, Manley, Corcoran and Casini all said the sweep was unexpected, but also symbolic. “I think it sends a message that the platform that we ran on resonated with District 86 citizens,” Casini said. “Namely, fiscal responsibility, transparency and community involvement.” Corcoran agreed that the community showed its support for the substance of the “Friends” slate’s platform. He also said he thought voters reacted to the group’s campaign approach. “We tried to have a positive campaign, talking about what we’re…

Letter: 'Build on Excellence' in D86 by Voting Brennan, Gorgol, Gallo, Rosenthal

The following is a letter to the editor submitted to Patch by Hinsdale resident Sue Pircon.

District 86 voters will once again be heading to the polls on April 9 and I strongly ask for your support for candidates Dennis Brennan, DeeDee Gorgol, Kay Gallo and Roseanne Rosenthal.   Each brings an individual expertise to the board and will seek to continue balancing financial challenges while maintaining an excellent educational standard. They have a vested interest in the school, each having had children enrolled in District 86, and are committed to providing a curriculum that will challenge the students and provide the foundation for success in the future.  They are also committed to ensuring a diverse offering of extracurricular activities while always looking at the district's finances and operating within a balanced budget. They…

Mr. Jensen, First off, please leave the personal comments aside. I never made reference to my personal circumstances, which are irrelevant to the Board election, if you don't mind. I don’t plan on making any reference to yours. Now, you said the state is preventing the board from raising the tax levy above the tax cap, so therefore we are led to believe that the board is fiscally responsible? …   more ›

Current District 86 board members Dennis Brennan, Kay Gallo and DeeDee Gorgol have teamed with Roseanne Rosenthal to form a so-far-unnamed slate.

Three current District 86 board members running for re-election have joined with one would-be newcomer to form a four-candidate slate for this spring's municipal election. Dennis Brennan, Kay Gallo, DeeDee Gorgol and Roseanne Rosenthal all confirmed that they will pool their efforts to run together for the four seats on the District 86 Board of Education up for grabs on the April 9 ballot.
