Central's Hardies Wins Regional Cross-Country Title
Red Devil boys and girls finished second; Hinsdale South boys and girls also qualify for sectionals.
Even a steady rain couldn't slow down Hinsdale Central sophomore cross-country star Jill Hardies on Saturday. Rain made the course at the Class 3A Lyons Regional a little slick, but Hardies stayed upright and won the individual championship in a time of 17:26, five seconds ahead of Downers Grove North's Gaby Effrein and Samantha Fry. "I was little worried that I would have to wear spikes, because they hurt my feet a lot, but thankfully the ground soaked all the water up so I could just wear my flats," said Hardies, who recently returned from a stress fracture in her foot.
