Indian Head Park police have released a sketch of a "person of interest" in the killing of Lyons Township freshman Kelli O'Laughlin on Thursday.
Indian Head Park police said at a press conference on Friday afternoon that they believe 14-year-old Kelli O'Laughlin was attacked and killed between 4:45 and 5:15 p.m. on Thursday after returning home from school and interrupting a burglary at the 6300 block of Keokuk Road in Indian Head Park. "It's a very fresh crime," said IHP chief of police Frank Alonzo. "It's still being investigated." A Cook County Medical Examiner's Office spokesperson confirmed reports that O'Laughlin had been stabbed to death. An autopsy found the official cause of death to be "multiple stabs and incised [knife-like] wounds." Update, Oct. 28, 11:44 a.m.: The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has confirmed that the victim was 14-year-old LTHS freshman Kelli O'Laughlin. Indian Head Park police are investigating the death of a Lyons Township High School freshman as a homicide, police told media outlets on Thursday. The body of a 14-year-old girl was discovered on Thursday afternoon in a home in the northwest part of Indian Head Park. *UPDATED: 11:22 a.m. Police this morning are continuing to look for a suspect believed to have been involved in a burglary on Old Mill Lane Wednesday night. The suspect is described as a black male approximately 6 feet tall. At around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Burr Ridge Police officers responded to a burglar alarm on Old Mill Lane and discovered the rear patio door to the home had been pried open. Police entered the home and found no one inside, but did discover that it appeared as though someone had rummaged through the master bedroom. "A very short time after [we arrived,] the homeowners actually came home, and we learned pretty quickly from them what was missing from the home," said Deputy Chief Tim Vaclav.
