Football: Hinsdale Central Celebrates Homecoming With Win Over Hinsdale South

For the second straight week, the Red Devils had to come from behind in the second half to beat a rival opponent.

Hinsdale South quarterback DJ Deolitsis gashed the Hinsdale Central defense for two long touchdowns in the first half, but the Red Devils came from behind for the second straight week and beat the Hornets, 34-27, in Saturday's Homecoming game at Dickinson Field in Hinsdale. Senior Hinsdale Central quarterback Brian Owens completed 15 of 24 passes for 319 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, outdueling South's Deolitsis, who ran for 211 yards and threw for 166.  Deolitsis had touchdown runs of 75 and 58 yards in a first half that ended with the Hornets up 21-13.  "I just did my job and it was there," Deolitsis said of the two scores. Football: Hinsdale South Suffers First Loss at Home Against Leyden

Five turnovers plagued the Hornets, who fell to 4-1 on the season, according the the Chicago Sun-Times.

Hinsdale South turned the ball over five times on their home field en route to a 17-14 loss to Lyden Friday night in Darien, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Tied at 7 in the fourth quarter, senior Hornets quarterback DJ Deolitsis fumbled and Eagles linebacker Ivan Nevarez took the ball back 53 yards for a game-changing touchdown.  "On first down following the ensuing kickoff, Hornets running back Arian Toney was tackled and fumbled," the Sun-Times reports. "Eagles linebacker Will Napier recovered on Hinsdale’s 37. Six plays later, Wach Mark squeaked over a 39-yard field goal to provide the insurance points." Football: Hinsdale South QB Runs for 3 TDs as Hornets Stay Unbeaten

D.J. Deolitsis gashed another defense during a 42-14 road win over Addison Trail Friday.

Hinsdale South quarterback D.J. Deolitsis ran for three touchdowns in a 42-14 blowout of Addison Trail Friday night in Addison, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Hinsdale South moved to 4-0 after their second straight lopsided win in the West Suburban Gold. The Hornets beat Proviso East, 53-0, last week. Addison Trail fell to 1-3, according to IHSA's standings. "Deolitsis, who has nine TD carries on the season, ran for 75 yards on 12 rushes and threw for 112 yards while completing 5-of-7 passes," the Sun-Times story reads. Football: Hinsdale South Beats Up on Proviso East, Advances to 3-0

Hinsdale South quarterback D.J. Deolitsis ran for two touchdowns in a 53-0 blowout of Proviso East Friday night in Darien, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Hinsdale South moved to 3-0 after winning their West Suburban Gold conference opener. Proviso East fell to 0-3, according to IHSA's standings. The Hornets led 39-0 at halftime, the Sun-Times reports. The Pirates had only one first down and failed to gain 20 yards in the first 24 minutes.  Hinsdale South is 3-0 for the first time since 2004. Hinsdale South 2-0, After Stinging York Dukes Friday Night

The Hornets won the non-conference home game 49-21.

Hinsdale South High School is off to a fast start this season. The York Dukes felt the Hornets' sting Friday night, 49-21. According to the Sun-Times, Hornet senior quarterback D.J. Deolitsis "completed 6-of-14 passes for 96 yards and carried 18 times for 165 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown that gave the home team a 34-14 lead with 7:16 left in the third quarter." The Doings called Deolitsis the "team’s projected top offensive player," having completed "65 of 136 passes for 936 yards and 11 touchdowns last season and rushed 123 times for 471 yards and eight TDs" last season. Red Devils Victorious in Overtime

Opening night of the 2011 football season was a good night for Hinsdale South. The Red Devils beat St. Charles North High School's North Stars Friday in what the Daily Herald called a "heartbreaker." Red Devils coach Rich Tarka rotated quarterbacks, Brian Owens and Danny Callahan, throughout the game. Tarka told The Doings: "We have two starters as far as I’m concerned."  Callahan's keen playing—including a 46-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Kelleher—sparked the offense in the first half. And, Owens ran the ball and tied the game at 20 and set the stage for overtime. He scored in OT to make it a 27-20 game.

Under new head coach Mike Barry, the Hinsdale South football team is seeking its first trip to the state playoffs since 2005.
