MONDAY, FEB. 25 A 16-year-old male Hinsdale Central student from Willowbrook was charged with possession of cannabis, police said, after an employee of the school determined he had the drug at 10 a.m. and called police. The substance field-tested positive for cannabis and the student was cited for violating a local ordinance. He was released to appear in court. SUNDAY, FEB. 24 Leon Francisco, 45, of the 2900 block of Willow Street, Franklin Park, was charged with DUI, police said, after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a 2:13 a.m. traffic stop in the 100 block of East Ogden Avenue, and refused an ensuing breath test. The Red Devils cracked the top five in all three relays, but lost out as a team to champion New Trier.
Behind three strong relay performances and a trio of top 12 individual finishes, Hinsdale Central finished second as a team at this weekend's IHSA boys state swim and dive meet. New Trier finished first with 189 points, far ahead of the Red Devils' 96. Lake Forest finished third with 93 points. The West Suburban Silver champs start their IHSA playoff run Wednesday night in Wheaton.
The Hinsdale Central boys basketball team wrapped up an 18-6 regular season Wednesday night, which is good enough for a No. 5 seed in the Bolingbrook Sectional and a first-round bye in the Wheaton Warrenville South Regional that begins next week. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Red Devils will face the winner of Monday's game between No. 12 seed Geneva and No. 21 seed Wheaton Warrenville South. The seniors were honored during a signing ceremony Wednesday morning before school.
Eleven Hinsdale Central athletes who plan to compete at the college level next year were honored Wednesday morning during a signing ceremony in front of their parents and coaches. The 11 seniors compete in sports that range from football, to soccer, to golf, and have committed to colleges that include North Carolina, Brown, and Holy Cross. The Hinsdale Central boys swim and dive team had a good showing at Saturday's Lyons Township Sectional.
Hinsdale Central's boys swim and dive team took first place at Saturday's Lyons Township Sectional and qualified 12 competitors in individual events for this weekend's state meet at New Trier. The Red Devils qualified for state in all three relays, and according to the IHSA website, the following competitors qualified in individual events: 200-yard Individual Medley 50-yard Freestyle Diving 100-yard Butterfly 100-yard Freestyle 500-yard Freestyle 100-yard Backstroke 100-yard Breaststroke

The junior beat Neuqua Valley senior Andrew Geers in the 285-pound title match Saturday in Champaign.
Hinsdale Central junior wrestler Brian Allen beat Neuqua Valley senior Andrew Geers, 4-2, in the 3A state final Saturday night at Champaign's Assembly Hall, capping an undefeated season with a state title and giving his school its second individual first-place finish, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The first-ever Hinsdale Central individual wrestling title was won by Brian's older brother, Jack, in 2011, the Sun-Times reports. Read the full Sun-Times story here. It's the Red Devils first West Suburban Silver championship since 2000, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Brian Owens scored 17 points, Matt Rafferty scored 15, and the Hinsdale Central Red Devils clinched their first West Suburban Silver boys basketball title since 2000 with a 54-39 win over York Tuesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. WATCH: iHigh's broadcast of Tuesday night's game. The Red Devils advanced their conference record to 10-1 with the win, Sun-Times reports, two games better than the second-place Dukes' 8-3 mark. Next up will be a crossover game with the West Suburban Gold champ on Feb. 20. Overall, Hinsdale Central is 17-5 and has won 11 straight, according to the Sun-Times. THURSDAY, FEB. 7 Two 16-year-old female Hinsdale Central students, one from Clarendon Hills and one from Westmont, were cited for fighting after the school resource officer responded to the two pushing and fighting near the high school’s main entrance at 3 p.m., police said. The students were referred to a juvenile diversion court program, where they’ll go in front of a peer jury. Police said they were not charged as adults. WEDNESDAY, FEB. 6 A 15-year-old male Hinsdale Central student was cited for theft after he was found with an iPhone that was taken after being left accidentally on a classroom countertop within the school at 9:45 a.m., police said. The teen, who lives in Willowbrook, was referred to a juvenile diversion court program. …
