Cook, who has been the village's top administrator for the last seven years, will serve through the end of July. Village President Tom Cauley said the search for Cook's replacement has already begun.
Hinsdale village manager David Cook will leave his post at the end of July for a new job as executive director of the Intergovernmental Personnel and Benefits Cooperative (IPBC) after he and the village's board of trustees were unable to agree on a contract extension. Cook has worked for the Village of Hinsdale for 23 years and has served as village manager for the last seven. "It’s definitely bittersweet, there’s no question," said Cook, pointing out that he's spent nearly half his life working for the village. "There comes a point in life where it’s time to open new doors and take new challenges." Both Cook and Village President Tom Cauley declined to identify any particular sticking points in contract negotiations. Cook said the two …

The Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees gave its unanimous support for the two-story mixed use development only after a special licensing agreement was reached with the property owner.
After months of discussion based on drawings and renderings, the Garfield Crossing project got the Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees votes it needed Tuesday night to become a reality. Village trustees voted unanimously to approve the site plan and exterior appearance of the two-story mixed-use development set to occupy the vacant property at the southwest corner of 1st and Garfield streets, but only after a heated discussion about a special agreement that was tied to the approval regarding the village's ability to investigate the development an alley behind the building. “We’re very excited to get this project up and going,” property owner Clay Naccarato said of the Garfield Crossing development after the board’s vote. After the Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees voted to create a new extended-hours liquor license in the village Tuesday, Doug Fuller said his sports bar will be open by late summer.
Doug Fuller said Tuesday night Hinsdale residents can expect part of Fuller's Home & Hardware along 1st Street to become a new downtown sports bar in matter of months. "We'll be open for Bears season," Fuller said in the Memorial Hall lobby after the Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees approved the creation of a new type of liquor license for restaurants that want to serve alcohol beyond the normal cutoff times of 10:30 p.m. on weeknights and 12 a.m. on weekends. Trustees voted 4-2 to approve the new extended-hours classification, which will allow Fuller and other Hinsdale restaurateurs to apply for a license that permits liquor service until 11:30 p.m. on weeknights and 12:30 a.m. on weekends. Trustees Kimberley Angelo, Jerry Hughes, …

The Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees is expected to make a pair of votes relevant to the downtown business district Tuesday night.
The Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees is expected to vote on a modification to the liquor code that could clear the way for a downtown sports bar at the same Tuesday night meeting it's set to vote on the site plan and exterior appearance of a major new development. Village officials have laid out two possible liquor-code modifications that seek to accommodate the request of Doug Fuller and Jim Carlstrom, who want to open a family-friendly sports bar in part of the Fuller's Home & Hardware space, for longer service hours. One option, according to Tuesday night's agenda packet, are to extend liquor-service hours for all full-service restaurants in the village from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weeknights and from 12 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on …

Cauley could become the first village president in Hinsdale's 140-year history to serve eight straight years in the role.
Though it occurred without much pomp and circumstance Tuesday night, the swearing in of Tom Cauley to the role of Hinsdale village president for a second four-year term was historically significant. Upon completion of his new term, Cauley, who ran unopposed for village president last month, would be the first person in Hinsdale’s history to serve as village president for eight consecutive years, according to village documents supplied by village clerk Chris Bruton. Of the 39 village presidents in Hinsdale’s 140-year history, 33 served four or less years. The last village president to serve more than four years was Frederick H. McElhone, who served from 1939-45. The only others to serve more than four years were W.T. Bruckner (1925-30), R.W…

A group of residents from the 400-600 blocks of North Grant Street want access from Ogden Avenue to be cut off.
Residents on a three-block stretch of North Grant Street in Hinsdale say resurfaced roadway has increased their local traffic and have presented a petition to the village’s board of trustees to make the street inaccessible from Ogden Avenue. Michelle Fisher lives with her family in the 500 block of North Grant and spoke on behalf of her neighbors in the 400-600 blocks at Tuesday night’s Hinsdale Board of Trustees meeting. She said there’s been “nothing but positive comments” about the smooth new stretches of roadway on North Grant, but the increased number of cars now using the street is a danger to the 36 school-age kids that live and play on the stretch. “Grant is becoming the new Garfield,” Fisher said. Fisher presented a petition to …

The renderings were looked at by residents who attended Tuesday night's public hearing on the Oak Street Bridge replacement project.
Hinsdale residents were given an opportunity to see what the reconstructed Oak Street Bridge might look like and learn about its dimensions and features Tuesday night during a public hearing at Memorial Hall. The new two-lane bridge, several renderings of which were on display Tuesday, would be 20 feet wider, 50 feet longer, and 3 feet higher than the existing one-lane bridge, said project manager Allen Staron of Clark-Dietz, the village’s engineering consultant during the first phase (engineering and environmental studies) of three phases of the Oak Street Bridge project. "The Federal Highway Administration told us that federal bridge funds cannot be applied for a new bridge constructed to carry less than two lanes," Staron said before …
