If “Game of Thrones” had been conceived by Wayne Gretsky, the seat of the Seven Kingdoms might look something like this chair, going for $350 out of Burr Ridge. The frame is almost entirely made of hockey sticks, with pucks for the base. A perfect chair from which to cheer on the Blackhawks (go Hawks!) This unorthodox coffee table from a Darien seller might look misshapen, but it’s carved from a single California redwood and is seriously huge—status symbol extraordinaire. (For some reason, in…

It's Police Week in the United States; in that spirit, we asked our local readers in DuPage County what they appreciate most about their local force.
Did you know that this week—May 13-20—is officially Police Week in the United States? According to PoliceWeek.org: In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. In the spirit of the week, we reached out to our DuPage County readers on Facebook and asked what they appreciate most about their local police departments. Here’s some of what readers shared with us: Carol Gog: “Back in the nineties, I locked my keys in …

Someone in Downers Grove is selling their entire Campbell’s Soup collectibles collection, over 40 pieces of various Campbell’s memorabilia, for $375. “I love my Campbell Soup, but am ready for a change!” the seller proclaims. To what, Progresso? Somewhere along the line, it became generally accepted that clowns are no longer funny and are now universally considered creepy. (Do we all blame J. W. Gacy for that one?) If so, this guy …

I was just remembering being young enough to fit in a little toy airplane ride like this one going for $165 out of Downers Grove. Never spend quarters outside a supermarket anymore, just plug in the batteries! … Uh, do they still have those quarter rides outside supermarkets? I never see one anymore. What happened to those? America, [expletive] yeah! Comin’ in here, to save the—well, you know how it goes. This very, very patriotic queen…

The village wants to curb the curb-jumping parking mishaps that led to three car crashes into storefronts, all in the 100 block of South Washington Street.
The Village of Hinsdale is considering the purchase of 22 bollards—sturdy post-like barriers—to be installed in front of businesses in the Hinsdale downtown to protect them from cars, the Chicago Tribune reports. According to the paper, the topic has come under consideration after three incidents in March where drivers accidentally hit the accelerator pedal instead of the brake while parking and crashed into storefronts on the 100 block of S. Washington Street—the Steinway Piano Gallery twice, and a neighboring building once. "In talking with the village engineer, he feels very confident that this would address the issue," Hinsdale Police Department Chief Brad Bloom told the paper. "This isn't a foolproof situation… We know how important …

Okay, he’s not really an actual bear, but this fuzzy four-foot mount going for $250 out of Downers Grove might be the best Sunday game day buddy possible: he’s polite, spirited, good for celebratory (or mournful) hugs, and is guaranteed to never steal all the guacamole dip. Is your kid a “Cars” fan? Or perhaps just a cars fan? Well, this bed isn’t exactly Lightning McQueen, but I bet a lot of kids 2-8 years old …

The Village instituted a 10-visit pass two years ago and is now considering decreasing non-resident rates to attract more poolgoers.
The Village of Hinsdale is looking at ways to increase revenue from the Village swimming pool, with the Village Board having renewed the pool's concessions license and planning improvements, and officials considering changes to the pool's pricing structure , the Chicago Tribune reports. According to the paper, revenue from the pool was $168,793 in 2010; $200,550 in 2011; and $198,213 in 2012; recent changes to the pricing structure have included adding a 10-visit pass, and officials on the Zoning and Community Affairs committee are considering decreasing some or all non-resident rates. "The weather drives pool daily admissions and annual passes," Gina Hassett, Village director of parks and recreation, told the paper. "It's hard to sell …

This 1940’s go-cart racer was half-restored, but never finished, by a Lemont father and son. It looks boring now, but imagine it with an awesome Speed Racer paint job! Comes with chrome pipes and bumper, stainless-steel moldings and a kick-start engine “that runs good,” all for $500. Remote-controlled airplanes are all well and good, but why do they have to look like boring old planes? Why not, say, killer sharks? I can’t tell you why it was never opened, because 40 feet of range sounds like…

The body could only be identified as male and was badly decomposed; DuPage officials are continuing to investigate.
A Friday autopsy has failed to identify the male body found floating in Salt Creek by Graue Mill at the Oak Brook/Hinsdale border at around 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, or pin down a cause of death, the Daily Herald reports. "[The body] was in bad shape due to advanced decomposition," Lt. Howard Oller of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District Police Department told the Suburban Life. "The decomposition was so advanced they couldn't even get fingerprints." According to the Chicago Tribune, the body was found by a passerby who was aiding family in the flood near the footbridge on the east side of York Road and north of Spring Road. The body was "badly decomposed," the Daily Herald reports. Multiple sources, including the Associated Press, …
