$1,200 Bag Snatched by Car Burglar: Police Blotter

Hinsdale police reports, March 1-3

SUNDAY, MARCH 3 Someone shattered a glass light fixture valued at $2,500 on the 800 block of County Line Road and also a fixture valued at $200 on the 900 block of the same road. The incidents occurred between 10:30 p.m. March 2 and 9:50 a.m. March 3. SATURDAY, MARCH 2 Someone took a cab from Tinley Park to Hinsdale and did not pay a cab fare totaling $80. The incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. on the first block of South Madison Street. A case for this incident is pending. FRIDAY, MARCH 1 A person reported that someone broke a rear window of a vehicle and stole a tote bag valued at $1,200. The incident occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 9:51 a.m. at a parking lot on the 700 block of North York Road. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $200. A …

Student Found With Pot at Hinsdale Central: Police Blotter

Hinsdale police reports, Feb. 20-26.

MONDAY, FEB. 25 A 16-year-old male Hinsdale Central student from Willowbrook was charged with possession of cannabis, police said, after an employee of the school determined he had the drug at 10 a.m. and called police. The substance field-tested positive for cannabis and the student was cited for violating a local ordinance. He was released to appear in court. SUNDAY, FEB. 24 Leon Francisco, 45, of the 2900 block of Willow Street, Franklin Park, was charged with DUI, police said, after he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a 2:13 a.m. traffic stop in the 100 block of East Ogden Avenue, and refused an ensuing breath test. Man Charged With 3 Car Burglaries After Foot Chase With Cop: Police Blotter

Clarendon Hills police reports, Oct. 4-10.

MONDAY, OCT. 8 A complainant from the 30 block of 58th Street reported at 9:48 p.m. that an unknown person had possession of the complainant's debit card and had made unauthorized purchases of $125 at two different truck stops, and several other pending charges of an unknown amount. The complainant was reimbursed by his bank for the two charges and the pending charges, as well as the card, were canceled.  FRIDAY, OCT. 5 John E. Molenkamp, 26, of the 200 block of Home Avenue, Itasca, was arrested after a foot chase with police at 2:16 a.m. and charged with the burglary of three unlocked cars in the 100 block of Tuttle Avenue. Police said an officer came upon Molenkamp after seeing the interior light on in a car Molenkamp was burglarizing. …

Caretaker Charged With Doing $20,000 Worth of Damage to Hinsdale Church

Police have not identified any possible motives for the damage.

Editor's note: Jill Vorobiev was found not guilty of DUI, and the record of the charges below has been expunged.  Criminal damage to property—Vincent H. Latkowski, of 148 Ann St. in Clarendon Hills, was arrested and charged with felony criminal damage to property after officers from the Hinsdale Police Department responded to an activated fire alarm at Grace Episcopal Church, where Latkowski works as a sexton, around 10 p.m. March 2 and found broken stained glass, a broken wooden bench, overturned bookcases, and several chairs thrown about the building. Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said police found evidence that indicated the sexton—which is a church's caretaker—had caused the damage. Initial estimates of the damage's total cost exceed $20,000…

I grow weary of the masses that are so concerned about the beauty and the material attributes of the church facilities. It is much more interesting question as to the motivations of the individual that made the decision to lash out in anger, immaturity or frustration towards inanimate objects.   more ›
