Crain's Chicago Business reports 32.5 percent of Hinsdale homeowners are mortgage-free and own their homes outright.
Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. According to the Crain's analysis, of 4,486 Hinsdale homeowners, 32.5 percent are mortgage-free. In Clarendon Hills, 26.6 percent of the 2,459 owner-occupied homes are without a mortgage. Both communities' numbers are higher than the Chicagoland average, which is nearly 26 percent.

Hinsdale resident Brian Hickey started Teardown.com in 2001 to directly connect sellers of property with redevelopment potential with interested buyers.
Brian Hickey pointed to an old black-and-white photograph of downtown Chicago above his desk in Clarendon Hills. “You take a look at that skyline, it doesn’t look like it looks now,” Hickey said, referring to buildings in the picture that no longer stand. “They were replaced by something.” Though controversial in towns like Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, redevelopment is natural and the product of a “constantly evolving” market, the longtime Hinsdale resident and founder of Teardowns.com says. Obama wants to implement an extra tax on homeowners with no mortgage. Not looking good for 32 percent of Hinsdale. This President likes to attack the wealthy, I laugh when I drive through Hinsdale and see all the Obama/ Biden bumper stickers.   more ›
