Police say the battery charge stems from a struggle that took place while trying to take the man into custody.
A man from unincorporated Hinsdale was arrested on the 800 Block of Plainfield Road in Darien on Nov. 6. Police said Victor A. Martinez, 21, of Marybeth Lane, was arrested around 2:20 a.m. Darien police said Martinez refused to get out of the car when asked to do so. "He physically had to be taken into custody," said Darien Deputy Police Chief Dave Skala. "He was calling officers names and was verbally abusive to officers." Skala said the battery charge stems from a struggle that occurred while they attempted to take Martinez into custody. Marie E. Sanchez, 49, of 4713 Prince Street in Downers Grove, was arrested at Alixandra Collections on Oct. 12. Sanchez was a suspect in a theft that occurred at the store a week earlier. "Store personnel had recognized her as the person from the incident on Oct. 5," said Deputy Chief Mark Wodka. "Upon recognizing her, the employee notified us that she was in the store again. This prompted us to respond there again yesterday." Police say Sanchez stole two pieces jewelry that had a combined value of $309.95.
