State Senator Kirk Dillard's Hinsdale Home Hit in String of Recent Burglaries

Dillard said Friday he's pushing for state regulations that would help police investigate residential burglaries in the Chicago suburbs that involve jewelry theft.

The Hinsdale home of state Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) is among those that have been burglarized this year and the senator says he's pushing for state legislation that will help local law enforcement investigate such burglaries.  "I am trying to curtail the number of residential burglaries which has swept through the western suburbs ... and other parts of the city," Dillard said during a Friday morning conference call with media members. Dillard said by talking with suburban police officials he has learned that most of the residential burglars that have victimized residents in Hinsdale and the surrounding area steal jewelry they quickly sell to cash-for-gold businesses. Two Burglaries Reported at Hinsdale Apartment Complex: Police Blotter

Forced entry was used in both incidents, police said. Here are more details.

Police are investigating two burglaries at a Hinsdale apartment complex that investigators think might be related. The burglaries both involved forced entry in a detached area of the complex, located on the 300 block of West 59th Street. One of the structures was a garage and the other was a maintenance area, according to Hinsdale police. "We believe that they're probably related and probably committed by the same person," Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said of the burglaries. "The maintenance shed and the garage are in close proximity to each other." The garage incident took place sometime between 7 p.m. April 3 and 9:15 a.m. April 30. Hinsdale Burglaries: Where Have They Taken Place?

Patch mapped the five burglaries and three attempted burglaries that have taken place in 2013, incident numbers Hinsdale Police Chief Brad Bloom called "higher than normal."

The eight combined burglaries and attempted burglaries reported in Hinsdale between Jan. 4 and March 16 represent a "higher than normal" number for such a time period, Hinsdale Police Chief Brad Bloom said last month. 'Higher Than Normal' Number of Burglaries in 2013: Hinsdale Chief

There have been four burglaries and four attempted burglaries in Hinsdale so far in 2013.

There have been eight combined attempted and successful residential burglaries in Hinsdale so far this year, which Hinsdale Police Chief Brad Bloom said is a “higher than normal” rate for the village. To date in 2013, there have been five residential burglaries in town: Jan. 12 in the 300 block of South County Line Road, Feb. 8 in the 200 block of East Hickory Street, Feb. 24 in the 500 block of North Garfield Street, March 8 in the 100 block of East Walnut Street, and March 16 in the 500 block of Wedgewood Court. There have also been three unsuccessful burglary attempts which took place Jan. 4 in the 800 block of South Bruner Street, Feb. 5 or Feb. 6 in the 400 block of East Hickory, and Feb. 6 in the 500 block of North County Line. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20 Someone broke into a car parked in a lot in the 900 block of North Elm Street by smashing a window and stole a GPS unit and a pair of sunglasses worth a combined $520, police said. The incident took place between 3:20 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. and remains under investigation. MONDAY, MARCH 18 Someone tried to use the identity of a resident from the 400 block of South Grant Street to open a line of credit at a jewelry store at 12:43 p.m., police said. The resident was alerted by the jewelry store and the transaction was denied. Hinsdale Home Broken Into Saturday Night: Police

Several pieces of jewelry went missing from bedrooms in the home, the Hinsdale Police Department reports.

A home in the 500 block of Wedgewood Court was burglarized Saturday night and it appears several pieces of jewelry were stolen, according to the Hinsdale Police Department. Forced entry was made to the home via a back door some time between 7:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a police department release reads. Jewelry is missing from bedrooms within the home.  Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said the value of the missing jewelry is unknown as of Monday morning, and the house was unoccupied during the above timeframe. "Residents in the area who may have any video surveillance footage from a private residential video surveillance system in the area are encouraged to contact the investigations division at (630) 789-7070," the department release reads…
