SATURDAY, NOV. 17 Cassandra L. Hawkins, 28, of the 1200 block of Homestead Road, LaGrange Park, was arrested after she appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop near the intersection of Route 83 and 63rd Street at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, police said. She failed an ensuing breath test. Police said Hawkins was charged with two counts of DUI, improper lane use and disobeying a traffic control device. She was released to appear in court. MONDAY, NOV. 12 Jayesh J. Clarendon Hills police reports, Nov. 8-14.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 14 A woman admitted to police she planned on stealing $2,600 worth of items from Jewel-Osco, 303 Holmes Avenue, that she had collected in a cart while at the grocery store. Employees of the store became suspicious of the shopper, whose cart was filled with items like teeth whiteners and allergy medications from the pharmacy section of the store, and alerted police, who confronted her. She was not charged. A resident from the 400 block of Traube Avenue reported to police at 3:27 p.m. that a UPS package containing an $85 sweater was never received despite being delivered, according to UPS, on Oct. 25. Several similar incidents where UPS packages appear to have been stolen after delivery have been reported in Clarendon Hills…

SUNDAY, OCT. 7 Juan Alberto Tapia, 24, of the 1300 block of south Finley Road, Lombard, was charged with DUI. Police said he was under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop for improper lane use near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Route 83 at 3:22 a.m., and failed an ensuing breath test. Tapia was charged with two counts of DUI and improper lane use. He was released to appear in court. Editor's Note: On June 21, Donna Grote of Hinsdale was found to be not guilty of DUI in DuPage County court, according to the state's attorney's office. Battery—A victim from the 600 block of The Lane reported that an unknown civil process server punched the 68-year-old male victim in the chest while serving a civil court document at 1:15 p.m. Jan. 29, according to the Hinsdale Police Department. The police report says the contact was allegedly “unlawful” and of “an insulting or provoking nature.” Deputy Chief Mark Wodka said no altercation led up to the incident. Domestic battery—Gregory S. Stephens, of 904 S. Stough St. in Hinsdale, was arrested after allegedly grabbing a female family member by the arm during a verbal dispute at 7:29 p.m. Nov. 13, preventing her from calling the police on her cell phone, and preventing her from leaving the house at the above address, according to the Hinsdale Police Department. The victim was able to regain possession of her phone and call 911 after Stephens left the scene, according to Deputy Chief Mark Wodka. The suspect was not present when police arrived that night, but turned himself in Nov. 17 following the issuance of a warrant. A male victim was hit in the chin while his vehicle was stopped at a red light on Ogden Avenue.
Battery—Cheryl Ann McCarthy, of 561 W. 58th St. in Hinsdale, was cited for battery after striking a male victim in the chin at a stop light on Ogden Avenue near Route 83 at 1:45 p.m. Oct. 28, according to the Hinsdale Police Department. Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka said McCarthy and the victim—a 38-year-old male from Brookfield—had both been driving down Ogden Avenue when McCarthy honked at the victim. "The victim believes it may be related to him driving too slow," Wodka said. When the two cars came to a stop at the red light near the ramp to northbound Route 83, McCarthy got out of her vehicle and approached the victim's vehicle, Wodka said. Illegal consumption of alcohol—Seven juveniles were observed to be under the influence of alcohol at the Hinsdale Central High School Homecoming Dance on Sept. 24, according to the Hinsdale Police Department. "At each Homecoming, there are usually between one and five citations issued for this offense," Hinsdale Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka said in an email Tuesday. Wodka said Hinsdale Police officers were on hand at the dance to provide security observed the intoxicated students. Disorderly conduct and public discharge of an air gun were also recent incidents reported Tuesday by the Hinsdale Police Department.
Discharge of air gun—A 16-year-old male juvenile from Darien was arrested at 9:55 p.m. July 30 after officers responded to a report that juveniles driving a vehicle had, with an air-soft gun, shot at someone outside the vehicle. The victim was struck in the back by the plastic bullet but was not harmed, according to Wodka. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the 10 block of East Hinsdale Avenue. The suspect was placed under arrest, then charged and ticketed. Three other juveniles, two 16-year-olds and a 14-year-old, were also in the car, Wodka said. Three people were charged with battery in Hinsdale between Saturday night and Monday afternoon.
Aggravated battery—A 15-year-old male juvenile from Hinsdale punched a Hinsdale Police officer in the face Saturday night after the officer responded to a complaint that the juvenile, who was observed to be under the influence of alcohol, was harassing park-goers at Burlington Park. According to the police report, a male juvenile victim came into the police station earlier, saying that several youths were using foul language and trying to fight people in the park. The responding officer arrived at the park and observed the suspect physically pushing park-goers. When the officer asked to speak with the suspect, the suspect fled the scene.
