Daisy Days Weekend Arrives in Clarendon Hills

A preview of the first Dancin' in the Street concert and a call for volunteers willing to serve on an electric aggregation advisory committee are among the other items in the village's latest "Trustee Topics" newsletter.

Daisy Days is This Weekend!

The Clarendon Hills Chamber of Commerce will kick off the summer fun in Clarendon Hills with their annual Daisy Days festival on June 15 and 16.

On Friday, rides and food are available beginning at 6 p.m. with the band Meritage playing at 7 p.m. On Saturday, don't miss Animalpalooza! from 10 a.m. to noon, including Dave DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles sponsored by . The morning will also include Pet Costume Contest, Stupid Pet Tricks and a Pet/Owner Look-alike Contest, all sponsored by Village Veterinary Practice.

The ever popular Battle of the Bands, sponsored by , will take place from noon to 6 p.m., and The Associates will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. Rides are available from noon to 10 p.m. and food is available 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Food is provided by local restaurants, including D's Sweet Berries, , , Jennycakes, , and Talley's Kitchen and Bar. 

All-you-can-ride tickets are available at Clarendon Hills Bank and The Daily Scoop. They can be purchased for $12 for one day or $20 for two days in advance.

Souled Out Kicks Off Dancin' in the Street

Souled Out, a high energy funk band, will open 2012 Dancin' in the Street summer concert series on June 20. The concert series is sponsored by  and the Village of Clarendon Hills and continues six weeks through the summer, each Wednesday through July 25.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase each week, beginning with Absolutely Delicious on June 20. Food and beverages will be available starting at 6:30 p.m. with music kicking off at 7 p.m. A complete schedule of bands is available online at www.clarendonhills.us/concerts.cfm. 

Don't forget that the concert series will continue on the Fourth of July. Events will kick off 30 minutes early to make sure concert goers don't miss the fireworks at .

The concert series is made possible through the support of sponsor Fifth Third Bank. Village Veterinary Practice is also providing support for the concert series, with additional support provided by the Oak Brook Racquet and Fitness Club;  of Coldwell Banker Realty; ; Klein, Thorpe and Jenkins; Christopher B. Burke Engineering; Allied Waste and the Clarendon Hills Chamber of Commerce. The concert is organized and run by the Village's Special Events Committee. As with prior years, Prospect Avenue from Park Avenue to the BNSF railroad will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Parking is available in the Metra commuter parking lot at the corners of Prospect Avenue and Ann Street. Please note that no private alcohol, skates, or skateboards are allowed downtown during the event.

Electric Aggregation Advisory Committee

At its Board meeting on June 4, the Village Board approved moving forward with a referendum to pursue Electric Aggregation. The Village is currently seeking volunteers to serve on an Electric Aggregation Advisory Committee to assist in the process and to serve as an advisory committee to the Village Board. Those interested in serving on the committee are requested to send a letter stating their interest and qualifications to Village Manager Randy Recklaus at rrecklaus@clarendonhills.us or mail to 1 N. President Karaba Named to Union League Board

The Union League Club of Chicago has elected Village President Thomas Karaba to its Board of Directors.

The club was established in 1879 in support of the federal Union and is comprised of men and women who take an active role in the public, civic, cultural and philanthropic affairs of the Chicago metropolitan area. President Karaba will serve a three year term on the Club's Board of Directors and will chair the personnel and administration committee.

President Karaba has held the office of Village President since 2007, most recently re-elected in 2011. He previously served as a village trustee and a member of the Village's Zoning Board of Appeals/Plan Commission.
