Unbeaten Red Devils Open Conference Play Friday

After one overtime win and one blowout win, Hinsdale Central football opens West Suburban Silver play against 1-1 Proviso West.

What: (2-0) vs. Proviso West (1-1)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Dickinson Field in Hinsdale

Why: The Red Devils are looking to keep their record perfect as they open up conference play in the West Suburban Silver with a home game against the Panthers, who are coming off a 25-6 home loss to Addison Trail Sept. 2, according to the Daily Herald

The Panthers won their opening game against Hubbard, 21-18, on Aug. 26. According to Sun-Times Media's Yourseason.com, Proviso West got two touchdowns from two-way player Jamal Payton. One was a 102-yard interception return on defense and the other was a 69-yard touchdown run on offense. (See Yourseason's Clyde Travis' full game story here.)

The Red Devils are coming off a 42-0 blowout win against Leyden in their home opener Sept. 2 after a nip-tuck overtime win against St. Charles North Aug. 26. According to a story by Yourseason.com's Chuck Fieldman, Hinsdale Central used two quarterbacks in both games.

In the home opener, junior quarterback Brian Owens threw two first-half touchdown passes while senior quarterback Danny Callahan ran for two scores in the second half.

Head coach Rich Tarka said he expects to play both Owens and Callahan again in Friday's game, according to Fieldman's story.

But the Red Devils defense was the story against Leyden. According to Fieldman, the unit allowed 6 net yards rushing and 40 yards passing against the Eagles en route to the shutout.

Congratulations to Dr. Jane Dillon, who as her patient while in private practice, I have known to beRead More a caring, skilled, and excellent doctor when I had serious medical problems related to my ears. While her new position will help many, I personally will miss her being in private practice.
