Boys State Tennis: Hinsdale Central Holds Team Lead After Perfect Day One

Hinsdale Central's Sam Bloom, Martin Joyce and the pairs teams of Alex Hagermoser/Peter Heneghan and Chase Hamilton/Michael Lorenzini all won three matches Thursday and advanced to the fourth round.

's boys tennis state qualifiers won all 12 of their matches Thursday without dropping a single set and booked four spots in Friday's singles and doubles fourth round at Hersey High School.

Senior Sam Bloom and freshman Martin Joyce both advanced in the singles tournament, while the doubles teams of Alex Hagermoser and Peter Heneghan (both juniors), and Chase Hamilton and Michael Lorenzini (a sophomore and freshman, respectively) advanced as well. 

As a team, the Red Devils have a tournament-high 30 points. New Trier is in second with 25 points and Lake Forest is in third with 23.

Bloom opened Thursday's play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Walter Payton's Nick Goralka. He beat Glenbrook North's Will Sauser in the second round, 6-0, 6-1, and Rockford Christian's Justin Ancona 6-0, 6-2 in the third round.

Bloom will face Niles North's Dave Bacalla in his first match Friday.

Joyce beat Lockport Township's Lucas Randall (6-1, 7-6(3)), Glenbard North's Matt Krzyaniak (6-0,6-3), and Homewood-Flossmoor's Brad Holt (6-1, 7-5).

Joyce will face Lake Forest's Peter Tarwid in his first match Friday.

Hagermoser and Heneghan opened with a first-round win over Crystal Lake South's Brandon Jarva and Jimmy Uvodich (6-4, 6-0) before beating Joliet Catholic's Zach Siegried and Nate Naal (6-0, 6-4) and finishing the day with a win over Evanston Township's Sam Wiener and Conner Woolf (6-0, 6-4).

Hagermoser and Heneghan will face Boylan Catholic's Adam Dahlberg and Max Samstag in their first match Friday.

Hamilton and Lorenzini dispatched Oswego East's Austin Hwang and Dan Milenkovic (6-1,6-0), Glenbard West's Phillip Pacyna and Sam Young (6-2, 6-1), and Oak Park River Forest's Mitchell Rasley and DJ Arends (6-3, 6-1).

They'll face Highland Park's Tom Haile and Andrew Zessar in their first match Friday.
