Soccer: LT Upsets Top Seed Hinsdale Central, Advances to Sectional Final

Lyons Township boys soccer team upsets No. 1 seed Hinsdale Central to advance to the 3A Hinsdale South Sectional final.

The Lyons Township High School boys soccer team upset previously undefeated Hinsdale Central, 2-1, Tuesday in the Hinsdale South 3A Sectional semifinal match, according to IHSA.

The No. 4 seeded Lions (16-2-3) have been on a winning streak this month. Tuesday marked the team's 10th consecutive win since their Sept. 28 loss against the No. 1 seed Red Devils, according to High School Cube News.

"All the credit to LT," Red Devils coach Michael Wiggins said after the game. "I thought we did well to set the tone to start the game and got into good scoring positions. They handled us well in that first 15 minutes of the game and yet kept coming at us.

“We had a special year and made a special run with a great group of student-athletes," Wiggins said. "They were fun to work with, and really made every training session a joy to run.

"This year’s team knew how to handle their success and it made them a tough team to beat. You never know how long something like this will go, but you never want a season to end when you are lucky enough to have the best student-athletes anyone could hope for. They are fine young men.”

The Lions will play the winner of a 6:30 p.m. match between No. 3 Benet Academy and No. 2 Morton in the Hinsdale South Sectional final on Friday, Nov. 1.
