PHOTOS: Central, South Volleyball Teams Go Pink

Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South played Thursday night in the fourth annual Volley for the Cure match to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

varsity girls volleyball might have beaten Thursday night in Hinsdale, but the match wrapped an event where everyone seemed to be on the same team.

The fourth annual Volley for the Cure, which alternates locations between Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South each year, featured matches between the schools' freshman, sophomore, and varsity teams and raised money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with a bake sale, raffle, and silent auction with gifts donated from individuals and area businesses.

Both volleyball teams wore pink uniforms for their last regular season match and the Hinsdale Central gym, which is normally very red, was decorated with pink balloons, ribbons, and streamers—even the volleyball court's lines were made in pink tape.

"It opens up everyone's eyes to be aware of this terrible disease," said Janet Grasso, the mother of Hinsdale Central senior Emily Grasso and chairwoman of this year's Volley for the Cure Committee.

Breast cancer is a part of life whether we like it or not, Grasso said, and Volley for the Cure is meant to take a positive approach to fighting the disease and celebrating those who have survived it.
