Hinsdale Central Girls Tennis Back on Top After State Title

The Red Devils split the team title with Lake Forest over the weekend.

Hinsdale Central's Isabella Lorenzini finished second overall in the singles competition to lead the Red Devils to a first-place tie with Lake Forest at the IHSA girls state tennis tournament over the weekend in Buffalo Grove.

Danielle Burich and Erika Oku finished fifth in the doubles competition for the Red Devils, who have won—or at least shared—six of the last eight team titles.

Hinsdale Central finished second as a team in 2012.

Lorenzini, a freshman, made it all the way to the singles title match before losing to Naperville Central sophomore Tiffany Chen, 6-3, 7-6.

Fellow freshmen Burich and Oku, meanwhile, rallied for three consolation bracket wins after losing in the quarterfinals, eventually beating Crystal Lake Central's Evelyn Youel and Jillian Wallace, 6-3, 6-1, in the fifth-place match.

Sophomore Sophia Haleas won three matches for the Red Devils, eventually being eliminated in the consolation bracket's fifth round, while the doubles pair of junior Rugile Valiunaite and senior Katie Lee made it all the way to the consolation semifinals before losing to Youel and Wallace.

Hinsdale Central and Lake Forest each accumulated 39 team points. Not far behind were New Trier (38 points) and Stevenson (36 points).
