Hinsdale Central Boys Golf Repeats as State Champs

The team finished 13 shots ahead of second-place New Trier over the weekend.

Hinsdale Central sophomore Kenneth Li shot a 142 over two days to lead the Red Devils to their second straight 3A boys golf state title over the weekend.

The Red Devils' overall team score of 603 was 13 shots better than second-place New Trier's 616.

The six-man team that competed Friday and Saturday at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington included seniors Grant Filer and Jeff Yoo, junior Brian Dolehide, sophomores Li and Drew Shepherd, and freshman Brendan O'Reilly.

O'Reilly led the way in Friday's first round, shooting a team-low 71. Li's 72, Dolehide's 76 and Shepherd's 76 rounded out the top-four scores for the Red Devils that went towards their team score day.

Saturday belonged to Li, whose 70 got him to 142 for the tournament, only one stroke worse than state champion Brian Ohr of Glenbrook North. O'Reilly's 78, Dolehide's 80, Shepherd's 83 were the other scores counted for the Red Devils.

Filer, Yoo, Dolehide and Li were all on the Hinsdale Central team that won the 3A state title at a rain-shortened 2012 tournament.
