Chicago is the undisputed home of improvisational
theatre and in this beginner’s class students will receive an enthusiastic introduction to this unique art form. In this extremely interactive class, children learn the fundamentals of improvisation. A wonderful way to lay the
groundwork for the basics of acting and theatre performance, this class encourages team building, group agreement skills, and creative exploration of self. We devote considerable time in class to body connectivity, self awareness, and discovery with the art of pantomime. Then move on to improv basics, which emphasize listening and
reacting. Communication skills are the cornerstones of this art and theatre as a whole. Through improv games and basic scene work, the students will gain a sense of “group mind” and the confidence and skills to move on in our more traditional acting program. The last class will be an opportunity for family participation in a ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’ style performance.
