Cross Country: Hinsdale Central Boys, Girls Both Competing at State

The girls and boys finished third and fifth, respectively, at the Marist Sectional last weekend.

Both the Hinsdale Central boys cross country and girls cross country teams will compete Saturday at the IHSA 3A state meet at Detweiler Park in Peoria.

The boys, coached by Jim Westphal, qualified as a team for the fourth time in the last five years after finishing fifth at the Marist Sectional.

The boys runners Saturday will be seniors Ankit Aggarwal, Mark Gesior, Jack Keller, Rajan Khanna, Dylan Palo and Ryan Somerfield, juniors TJ Caveney, Nigel Gachira, Kevin Huang, Billy Magnesen and Emmett Scully, and sophomore Alex Domiano.

The boys team finished 16th as a team at state last year.

The girls, coached by Mark McCabe, return to the state meet after missing the team competition in 2011. Before that, the Red Devils had qualified every year since 2002. Hinsdale Central won the team title in 2006 under McCabe.

The girls runners Saturday will be seniors Katie Gelman, Jill Hardies, Veronica Peterson, Allison Shaner, and Becky Ventura, junior Becca Marcotte, sophomores Sarah Brennan, Sara Folliard, Molly Leahy, Sophie May, and Susan Spencer, and freshman Emma Sullivan.

The girls finished third as a team at the Marist Sectional.
