Boys Swimming: Danny Thomson Breaks Own Record in 500 Free
The Red Devils finished in fourth place as a team during the two-day state meet in Evanston.
Hinsdale Central senior Danny Thomson broke an IHSA state record for the second straight day by swimming a 4:18.86 in the 500-yard freestyle Saturday, nearly one-half second better than the 4:19.28 he swam during Friday's prelims, according to the IHSA website.
Thomson's Saturday time was more than two seconds better than the record 4:21.04 time he swam in the 2011 finals.
Thomson also took first place in the 200-yard freestyle for the second straight year with a time of 1:37.47 Saturday.

As a team, finished fourth behind first-place New Trier, second-place Naperville North, and third-place Warren.
Other Red Devils who qualified for Saturday's finals were junior Eddie Mapel, who finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 0:58.27, and junior diver Ryan O'Donnell, who finished 11th overall with a score of 369.10.

All three Hinsdale Central relays swam in Saturday's finals. The Red Devils finished seventh in both the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays. Will Leach, Mapel, Brian Portland, and Thomson swam in the medley; Connor Schroyer, Leach, Portland, and Thomson swam in the 200 free.
Leach, Portland, Alex Cruz, and Schroyer finished 12th in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
