Walker School Principal Promoted to New D181 Administrative Position

Kevin Russell will become the Director of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction on July 1 after nearly four years at Walker School in Clarendon Hills.

The following is a release from Community Consolidated School District 181:

Following board approval at the Monday, May 21, meeting, Kevin Russell will become the new District 181 director of curriculum, assessment and instruction, effective July 1. This is a new position in the Department of Learning.

Russell has been principal since August 1, 2008. Prior to that, he was the assistant principal at for one year.

“Mr. Russell is an outstanding leader within District 181 who demonstrates a deep understanding of curriculum, assessment, and instruction,” Superintendent Dr. Renée Schuster said.

Russell has a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and a bachelor’s degree in history. He also has a certificate in educational leadership. He is completing his doctorate in educational leadership, and expects to complete his degree in December 2013.

“This is a tremendous opportunity, and I look forward to supporting all students and staff of the district,” Russell said May 22.

He previously worked at O’Neill Middle School in Downers Grove for seven years as a social studies teacher. He has also coached basketball, track and intramurals and worked with the student newspaper club, builders club and the drug prevention club.

Russell lives in Lisle with his wife Melissa, who is a former sixth-grade math teacher, and their five children: Kylie, 7; Ty, 6; Ally, 4; Brooke, 3; and Caden 2. The couple is expecting their sixth child this September.  

Schuster will begin the process of selecting a new principal immediately.
