Still No Deal Between District 181, Teachers' Union

The current contract expires in less than one week; joint release says progress has been made.

No agreement was made on a new contract between District 181 and the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Teachers' Association (HCHTA) during a six-hour mediation session Thursday, but "progress has been made," according to a joint release from the district and union sent out Friday afternoon.

The current contract between the district and union expires Wednesday, Aug. 24. The first day of school for District 181 schools is Thursday.

"At this time, there is no additional statement I can make beyond the Board's press release," Superintendant Dr. Renée Schuster said in an email Friday.

Enraged, or at least disturbed, that a small fraction of D181 teachers who comprise "the union" have refused to settle on a new contract after 14 months of negotiating? Be a proactive taxpayer. Attend Monday's Board of Education meeting at 7 p.m. at Elm School. You can be assured the union will require its members to make their presence felt. The Board needs the community's unwavering support as the 11th hour looms.

Congratulations to Dr. Jane Dillon, who as her patient while in private practice, I have known to beRead More a caring, skilled, and excellent doctor when I had serious medical problems related to my ears. While her new position will help many, I personally will miss her being in private practice.
