On the District 181 Agenda: Overview of Education Reform Act of 2011

The board of education will get an explanation Monday night of the new state regulations signed by Governor Quinn in June.

At Monday night's Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education meeting, Associate Superintendant Mary Ticknor will present to the board an overview of the Education Reform Act of 2011, which was signed into law last month by Gov. Pat Quinn.

New regulations from what was known as Senate Bill 7 change labor negotiation practices, the minimum length of the school day and school year, and methods for granting teachers tenure.

Ticknor said in June that District 181 had been monitoring the goings on in Springfield prior to Quinn's signing ceremony and were able to get a head start on modifying teacher evaluation models.

Also at Monday's meeting:

  • The board will discuss proposed agenda plans for the 2011-12 school year. 
  • Superintendant Dr. Renee Schuster will present a plan for upcoming policy revisions in the district.
  • The board will be asked to approve a technology equipment lease and a one-year transportation extension.
