On Monday's D181 Agenda: Public Hearing on Budget

The board of education will also take action on the district's 2011-12 goals.

A public hearing will be held regarding the amended Community Consolidated School District 181 budget for the 2011-12 school year at Monday night's board of education meeting.

In March, two community meetings were held to vet ideas for trimming $1.2 million from a $53 million operating budget. (See Patch's coverage of the meetings .)

At the board's June 13 Committee of the Whole meeting, potential budget cuts were proposed by Assistant Superintendant for Business Dr. Troy Whalen, including the elimination of the $100,000-a-year building and grounds administrative position (director of building and grounds Sue Kamuda is retiring this year), and $350,000 in reductions to the accumulated surplus Health Plan Account.

Residents with an opinion on the amended budget will have the chance to make public comment Monday night.

Also Monday, the board will vote on district goals for the 2011-12 school year, which include its students achieving "academic excellence" and its administration maintaining "financial viability."
