Manley on Wahl Resignation: 'Unexpected Change' Brings Opportunity

District 86 Board President Claudia Manley said a letter to media via email Wednesday night that the focus now should be "to selectively build an executive staff to propel this district on a new journey forward."

The change brought by Superintendent Nicholas Wahl's sudden resignation this week is hard, but District 86 can use it as an opportunity to move forward.

That was the message District 86 Board President Claudia Manley expressed in a letter emailed to Patch Wednesday night.

"As board president, I view this time of change as an opportunity for our district to selectively build an executive staff to propel this district on a new journey forward," Manley wrote.

Wahl's resignation was announced at Monday night's Board of Education meeting. It was reported Tuesday that he had accepted a new superintendent's job in Carmel, Ind.

Here is Manley's full letter:

Change is hard, change is difficult, however, this unexpected change also gives us an unforeseen opportunity as a district. As board president, I view this time of change as an opportunity for our district to selectively build an executive staff to propel this district on a new journey forward. I have taken my own personal time to meet with the district leadership team and district office staff to support our new acting superintendent, Dr. Bruce Law, in his role and to support them, as I would expect as an employee, during this time of transition.  Dr. Bruce Law has our full confidence and support.

We, as a board, will continue to move ahead with our goals of providing this district with accountability, setting standards for budget preparation, improved reporting, utilizing measurable goals and objectives, setting expectations for the students through board goals and inspiring collaboration, and community involvement in our newly forming committee structures. It is my hope that the community, staff and students view these changes not as an obstacle but as an opportunity to build toward the future. We wish Dr. Wahl good fortunate and success in his newly announced professional opportunity.
