Local Student's Artwork Chosen for IAEA Show

Artwork submitted by Lila Hutcherson, a sixth-grade student at Clarendon Hills Middle School, is one of 40 pieces selected for the annual Illinois Art Education Association art show.

Art created by a District 181 student is among 40 pieces of student work selected for inclusion in the annual art show of the Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA).

This year, over 500 entries from grades k-12 were submitted from IAEA members. Lila Hutcherson, a sixth-grade student at Clarendon Hills Middle School, was selected for art she created in Grade 5 at Monroe School, where her teacher was Theresa McGee.

“Congratulations to all the talented young artists that had their art selected for the exhibit," said Dorothy Bennett, IAEA president. "It is quite an honor to be selected for this show. It is exciting to see the talent these young people possess. A big thank you to the artists for their hard work and to
their teachers for their dedication to the field of art education.”

This year’s Student Show reception was Nov. 12 in Normal, Ill., as part
of the IAEA’s Professional Development Conference. Students and their families were invited to attend an award ceremony to receive a certificate and a prize bag filled with art supplies.

The art show will travel throughout the state from through the end of June, 2012. The schedule includes Dr. Scholl Gallery at Marmion Academy, Aurora, during the month of February.
