The Board is taking positive steps to ensure continuation of high quality education and be fiscal responsible with the teachers union contract negotiations.

D86 teachers already have 1) wages at the top end of the Illinois and national pay scale, 2) substantial absent/paid off time between 12-15 weeks per year, 3) comprehensive health benefits with minimal personal contributions.

The Board is providing reasonable financial offers to the Union. They are taking steps that make good business sense and bring increased value to the taxpayers and education program.  This approach is validated by the recent audit that confirmed a number of controls need to be incorporated into the district’s operations.  What may have worked in the past is not sustainable, logical or efficient for future operations.

The Union and detractors’ position is confusing about the Board offer; ask for more wages, more district benefit contributions, ‘we deserve it’, more, more, more without the ability to measure performance. Why are runaway spending levels, toxic practices / policies from past contracts / administration, and special interest groups good for D86, the community, the teachers and our children?

The Board appears to be acting in good faith. The Union has a shared responsibility to act quickly and do the same without the distractions that keep us from solving this impasse with fair, sensible and meaningful solutions where we all benefit.
