Hinsdale Central Ranked 7th Best IL High School

U.S. News and World Report has named Hinsdale Central the 7th best high school in the state in its 2014 ranking, which was released last week.

Hinsdale Central is in the middle of the pack of Chicago suburban high schools that made the state's top ten, which include Adlai Stevenson (#5), Deerfield (#6), John Hersey (#9) and Highland Park (#10).

The top four schools are all Chicago selective enrollment high schools. You can view the full list here.

Nationally, Hinsdale Central was ranked No. 254. 

Hinsdale South landed in #34 spot on the list of top ranked high schools in Illinois, and #771 nationally. 

The methodology, which was unchanged since last year, looks at three main factors to decide a school’s ranking: whether students are performing better than statistically expected for the average student in the state; whether disadvantaged students are performing better in math and reading than the state average for their peers; and the school’s “college-readiness” performance, based on AP or International Baccalaureate test data.

In Illinois, the Prairie State Achievement Examination is used to gauge student performance to determine the ranking.

Earlier this month, Hinsdale South in Darien was listed by the Washington Post as the 11th most challenging high school in Illinois. Hinsdale Central in Hinsdale ranked 14th on the Washington Post list.

Hinsdale Central and South teachers are currently in negotiations for a new four-year contract.
