Learn about perimenopause at free Adventist Hinsdale Hospital program

Hinsdale – Hot flashes, mood swings, depression, insomnia, incontinence, fatigue, irregular periods, breast tenderness, decreased libido, vaginal tenderness, palpitations. If you’re approaching 40, you might wonder if these irritating and inconvenient symptoms are perimenopause or signs of a health disorder. Get the answers at a free special presentation sponsored by Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.

Dr. Kimberly Bruneau, an ob/gyn who treats patients at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, will present “A World-Class Presentation on Perimenopause” at 6 p.m. May 11 at Butterfield Country Club 2800 Midwest Road, Oak Brook. Light food and refreshments will be served.

Although many women might understandably balk at committing to one more event, Bruneau said they owe it to themselves and their families to address the sometimes confusing changes their bodies are experiencing.

“Women are better equipped to care for their families if they maintain their own physical and emotional well-being,” Bruneau said. “Putting your health last can lead to bigger problems, such as finding a condition when it’s more advanced.”

Although the above symptoms are common in perimenopause, they also accompany other conditions, such as certain cancers and thyroid disorders. Even when they are associated with perimenopause, there is no reason why women should suffer in silence or have their concerns dismissed when holistic and minimally invasive solutions exist.

“Exercising regularly, eating healthful foods and nurturing your emotional health take time, but it’s time worth taking,” Bruneau said.
