Less bone is removed by resurfacing the joint. The physician makes a smaller incision and recovery time is much shorter than in knee replacement surgery. Patients return to daily activities sooner with a knee that feels more natural to them compared to traditional knee replacement surgery.

MAKOplasty is performed on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. During the procedure, Trksak resurfaces only the diseased portion of the knee. Healthy bone, soft ligaments and surrounding tissue are left alone. He then places an implant inside the knee to restore normal movement.
Patients whose osteoarthritis pain is no longer controlled through medication, steroid injections or physical therapy and have no more than two areas of knee damage may be candidates for MAKOplasty.

Most patients walk soon after surgery. Typical in-patient hospital stay is one to three days. Driving is permitted after two weeks; the return of most daily activities quickly follows.
