District 181 Superintendent Renee Schuster Announces Resignation

Schuster cited family commitments as the reason for submitting her resignation, which comes one year prior to the end of her contract.

District 181 Superintendent  Renée Schuster announced during Monday night's school board meeting that she would be leaving her post effective June 30, 2014, according to a District 181 press release.

Schuster cited family commitments as the reason for submitting her resignation, which comes one year prior to the end of her contract. The school board on Monday night voted 7-0 to accept her resignation.

“It was a very hard decision,” Dr. Schuster said, “but family is always first. This is a great community and we have great students, great teachers and great leaders."

Schuster joined the district as superintendent in July 2010.

School Board President Marty Turek cited several examples of Schuster's accomplishments during her tenure:

  • Improved writing instruction, updated English Language Arts curriculum, and strong progress in renewing math curriculum
  • Honoring of two additional schools nominated for the esteemed U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools Award• Moving the District from a one-year, deficit budget to a multi-year, balanced budget
  • Overseeing bond sales that have saved $11 million since 2010-11
  • Creation and implementation of the Learning for All Plan
  • Overall leadership and formation of the administrative team
Prior to coming to District 181, Schuster had been an administrator in Missouri schools since 1993. She began her career as a speech-language pathologist in Fulton Public Schools

The District 181 Board of Education will discuss at a future meeting a course of action in regard to the district’s plan for filling the Superintendent position.
