Bruce Law Takes Over As Acting D86 Superintendent

Law has served as District 86's assistant superintendent for instruction since 2010.

District 86 assistant superintendent for instruction Bruce Law was appointed acting superintendent after the resignation of Nick Wahl was announced Monday night.

Law has served as assistant superintendent since 2010, when he began with the district.

“Dr. Law [has been] responsible for leading District 86 curriculum initiatives and title grants as well as overseeing professional development, managing the English Language Learners program, and supervising instructional technology,” Board President Claudia Manley said Monday.

Before coming to District 86, Law headed Chicago Virtual Charter School from 2008-10.

Law said he was as surprised as anyone to hear the news of Wahl's resignation. Because the change is so new and unexpected, Law could not comment on whether he’s interested in the job permanently.

“We’re completely focused on getting school started,” he said, noting that he’s “not able to think about” the permanent position at this time.

Manley said it’s too early to know when a permanent replacement for Wahl will be named and how the process by which he or she will be found will go. But she promised there would be no impact on the 2013-14 school year set to begin on Aug. 23.

“School staff is in place and normal school preparations are proceeding as planned,” she said.
